One Proud Pinoy Moment

I know this post is late in coming but here’s my take on why Manny Pacquiao’s win against Erik Morales was one big Pinoy moment:

1. He showed to the world he’s one hell of a slugger.

2. He’s a perfect example of one poor lad who made it good and made it this far.

3.Filipinos need a modern-day sports hero, and he’s it.

4. Filipinos need to be inspired that one can strike it rich by dint of ‘bloody’ hard work, not by stealing, winning the lotto, or engaging in illegal rackets.

5. He’s the only non-bombastic star who can make traffic and insurgency fighting stop in this beleaguered country.

6. At last, here’s one piece of good news coming from the Philippines.

Our hats off to you, Manny. Keep the commercials coming. You will always be a hero in our eyes, so please…….

Don’t ever think of running for public office.

      hi ajay!

why didn’t you include his debut album?

I think it’s between novelty and that of April Boy’s. Probably because of the simple lyrics and the composer who is Lito camo.

Bet this would be popular in videoke joints. Do I hear drunk tambays singing this? :teehee:

:: I hope Pacman would retain his kapitbahay sa barrio appeal. That dreamy, small boy from the province…

With an historic win and a couple of hit songs, we could just see that pacman will soon be a movie star or be convinced to run for public office. wag na lang sana, after all multi-millionaire na sya. There’s such a thing as not being too greedy

It’s sad (some people would say ‘disgusting’) they way people in power (politic/commerce) are using Manny Pacquiao to further their own interests. Here is a man who has made good with the skills he has, and all these other people can do is ride on his success. Furthermore, people on the other side of the fence are saying Manny shouldn’t be called a hero (in the Rizal, Bonifacio, Aguinaldo sense of the word) and are directing their ire on the boxer from GenSan, forgetting that it is the people who are calling him so. Manny is a boxer, a husband, a family man (in what order is Manny’s prerogative), and I believe he knows that and is content with it.

    8. ajay says:

Amen to that Bambit. Crab mentality and/or riding on to someone’s popularity seems to be a natural negative part of our culture. Hopefully Pacman the Pinoy folk hero will always be grounded despite the numerous influences that surround him.
