  1. The great Palawan landscape (updated)

    March 29, 2006 by ajay

Somebody wuld probably ask me which is more beautiful: Palawan or Bora? I’d have to say there is really no comparison between the two because they possess different levels of appeal. Bora is more commercial and nothing beats it as a beach party place. Palawan on the other hand is serene and you go there to enjoy nature at its best.

Am still too busy to blog but am posting here some pics of my recent vacation to Puerto Princesa City. Most of these were taken as we went island-hopping and exploring the place’s natural wonders.

  2. Back from the vacation (… & a few realizations)

    March 27, 2006 by ajay

I have to admit that like most Pinoys, I’ve toyed with the idea of leaving this seemingly godforsaken country. But the desperation is not so great as to make me make the Big Move yet. My friends argue that you could work day and night and not own a house in RP whereas you could easily own a car and other comforts in a country like America. However, I think there are things here which I wouldn’t exchange for any other nirvana in the world. For instance, I wouldn’t trade our glorious weather and the infectious laughter of our people for any of those high-tech appliances in the First World. In the long run, it’s not all about money. To me, it’s all about belonging to a place where the faces and footprints are at once true and familiar to you. I’ve asked myself what is home to me and it is Manila (for now ~ I could answer Cagayan or Tawi-tawi later). Manila which may signify all the crap and trash for some but which I view as oozing with more than the soul and character I can muster.

  3. Men Loving Other Men

    March 22, 2006 by ajay

(Author’s Note: I have gazillions of published articles and have kept about half of them. I thought this old article was interesting enough to be recopied in this blog, in the light of my recent post on ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and the subject of sexuality. FYI, this appeared under my byline in the Nov 13, 1999 (!!!) issue of Women’s Journal. It’s old, all right, but the revelations are ageless. Read for yourself and tell me what you think. Who knows girls, you may never look at your boyfriend/husband in the same way again)

The stereotype gay is the kind often depicted in local movies: screaming parlor fags; brooding, artistic types; and sexually adventurous ones who pick up young hustlers in Cubao or frequent seedy bars.

Another type of homosexual male chooses to stay in the closet for obvious reasons: being born male, his family and friends expect him to behave like one. He must appear dignified, manly, get married and raise a family at the right age.

  4. It’s summer! Time to be a beach bum

    March 21, 2006 by ajay

I promised to myself that my buffet lunch at Market Cafe yesterday is going to be my last, at least until the season is over.I’ve finally noticed my posts for the past few days and it’s all about f-o-o-d, which will not help me any as this is the time for baring, frolicking and worshipping the sun. It’s occurred to me that the only way a groovy momma like me can look modestly presentable in this
season of mini’s and midriffs is to sweat it out in the gym and resist all culinary urges. I can never duplicate what my friend Mai did who had a boob job and tummy tuck in her 40s. I was impressed with the final work by the way but I’d rather spend the money cruising in the Bahamas or something like that.

  5. Single, Un-Looking

    March 21, 2006 by ajay

I am now officially single (and a little poorer, as a result).

    Being married sucks.

& getting married in this country sucks more.

  6. Seafood overload & time out with a dear girl friend

    March 19, 2006 by ajay

Been euphoric the past few days because I’ve had bonding sessions with a person dear to me. I consider Eileen one of my ‘bestest’ friends but unfortunately I only get to see her every few years since she’s now based in the US with her good-looking pilot husband. So when she flew into town, she gave me the nicest compliment: “A, you’ve never looked so good. What’s your secret?” To which I replied: ” You’ve never aged yourself. I hope I can still look as good as you when am already 44!”

It has also established quite a reputation with me as the hotel with “the most paranoid security check” this side of the city. But that’s another story.

  8. My favorite bento, best boneless crispy pata and other food tales

    March 16, 2006 by ajay

Thanks to Anton for mentioning this humble site as one of his favorite blogs on the Philippines. Anton’s Awesome Planet is the one to go to if you want a fresh take on unique places in Manila and fascinating hideaways in this country of 7,107 islands , complete with beautiful photos at that. My only regret is that I haven’t been gallivanting like this fellow blogger does, this being a year of “downsizing” my personal affairs (read: “due to a running mortgage and mounting bills, I have become poorer, hehe). As a result, I had to shy away from joining Pinoy Travel Blog and other commitments. Who knows, better luck next time.

  10. ‘The Husband Store’ & who is my perfect lover

    March 13, 2006 by ajay

Not too long ago, somebody tagged me to reveal the “Eight Points of My Perfect Lover” which I have been too lazy to answer. But ever since my dear sis e-mailed me something about the opening of the Husband Store in New York City (hehe) I have no choice but to take out my shopping list. So here it is, finally out:
