Beach escape to Us-usan Island

Island scenes

They call it Us-usan Island and it was something I haven’t heard about or seen in any of those Philippine tourism guidebooks. Us-usan is a long stretch of beach which possesses the most magnificent sandbar I’ve seen. Yes, even better than the White Beach in Camiguin which I last saw 10 or 15 years ago. Our guide said Us-usan’s sandbar changes with the tide which made it even more amazing.

picnic by the beach

We went to Us-usan as part of our Costa Aguada package. This secluded beach was a good 30 to 45 minutes from the resort. The fact that it is partly inaccessible and there are hardly any people who go here added to the place’s appeal. That means you can have the beach all to yourselves. Even though there was no water on this isolated island, they have a number of cottages where you can just laze around. Among the activities we indulged in were swimming (of course!) fishing, kayaking, and having a “cold oil” massage on my hair. I thought the best part was when picnic tables were laid out on the beach and we chose from a scrumptious buffet of ultra-fresh seafood.

Ususan scenes

Before going to Us-usan that morning, we dropped by Naoway Island where we bought the seafoods which would comprise our lunch that day.Among these were crabs, squid, and the mangagat fish (quite popular in Guimaras)which taste really superb when filleted and then grilled. Naoway is a quaint fishing village and it was nice to take a little tour around and observe some interesting facets of island life, as these pics would show.

Us-usan Island was beautiful and our time spent there was truly unforgettable.

Bakit, Ajay? Ilusyon lang ba yun. I know the Black Russian and Long Island Iced Tea mix truly packs a wallop for the weak hearted. It makes you do things you don’t usually do and the best part about it is you don’t remember anything, heheh.

Basta, I know what you did that night. Saksi si Marlon, heheh!

    2. [...] Speaking of Yuga, he hails from Guimaras and I can just cry at that beautiful province which is now ravaged by the biggest oil spill in Philippine history. I was fortunate enough to visit there last summer where I spent time a memorable time with media friends at Costa Aguada Island Resort and even toured their majestic secluded beaches. I wonder what will happen to all that now..tsk!tsk! [...]
