Binondo Culinary Adventure Part 2, with D’Bloggers

Bloggers at Lido

I’ve gone to Binondo three times in a row now, and it seems I would like to go there every week until my addiction is satisfied.I just couldn’t have enough of this place for now. Good that my fellow bloggers, the gallivanting Eric and va-va-voom Miss V (actually we belong to the same company) were game enough to be with me on this latest food trip which saw us braving heavy rains and high water just to whet our appetites for the irresistible taste and aroma of Manila’s Chinatown.

Cafe Mezzanine

Our group met at Binondo Church and then walked the few steps to Cafe Mezzanine, a cozy coffeeshop which is being maintained by an official of the East Binondo Volunteer Firemen’s Association. This explains why the firemen often dine here and you can even see a few of their helmets hanging on the walls. We ordered their flavored brewed coffee here while prepping ourselves up for the walking food tour ahead. On the ground floor of the cafe is Chuan Kee Fast Food which offers kiampong, machang and other budget meals.

V_Dimsum

Afterwards, Eric led us to this secret dumpling place which is no longer “secret” (at least to me and my dear readers, haha) It’s called Dong Bei Dumpling on Nueva (now Yuchengco St.) Naturellement, we ordered their dimsum which was so good and so cheap … 13 pieces for just P100. The dumplings are freshly prepared in front of the helpers and you can also try various kinds of their handiwork noodles, fried stuffed buns, xiao long bao and the like. Thumbs up for this one!

Tea eggs

A few walks more and we chanced upon this small stall called Cue Ka Ching whose specialty is their tea eggs, boiled in special tea leaves of course. It looked so tempting that I had to order at least one, for only twelve pesos. I also bought the packed pancit misua for takeaway which I liked so much that I want to go to Chinatown for this again.

After buying some baked goodies at Salazar, we had lunch was at this resto by the estero which proved to be so cheap and fabulous that I want to talk about it in another post. :P

Finally, I had to bring my blogmates to Panciteria Lido even just for the taste of their heavenly, nice-smelling coffee. We agreed that sipping beverage was all we could do as our tummies were already full from all the tasting sessions along the way. Thanks Eric and Vina for this culinary adventure I can’t forget:)

      Hi!

You have to try the coffee at VIP Cafe. It’s near Cafe Mezzanine…on Nueva and slightly across Poland Bakery. Only 1 lady there knows the secret to the brew…she puts crushed eggshells ata or something with the ground coffee before brewing.

This is a well-known restaurant and you might have tried it…Sincerity. They’re known for their fried chicken and kikiam.
