Forget-your-diet, ultimate food trip: a postscript

Aurelys

From what I gathered, there will still be a third installment of our food trip in October. Hope more people will be able to join us then and of course I am keeping my fingers crossed that there will be no typhoons to cause monstrous traffic jams. I am sure that every member of our group is thankful of taking the time to discover the culinary jewel that is Pampanga, care of our tour guide Spanx.

Anyway, here’s a photo of a dessert specialty we tasted in San Fernando simply called “Aurely’s Special.” It is more easily described as brazo de mercedes turned upside down – meaning the yellow, instead of the white, part is on top. It is yellow because it is made up of sinfully rich egg yolks. Btw, for those who wonder about what brazo de mercedes is, I found this online.

Other tempting goodies we tasted on this trip:

Pan de torta at Razon’s, together with Razon’s halo-halo of course. The pan, I believe, is the Kapampangan version of the French toast. It is pan de sal filled with what appears to be sauteed minced meat, then dipped in egg and toasted.

Doren Tayag’s Decadent Chocolate Cake - You miss half of your life if you don’t taste this and we had to drive through a gated subdivision to get this. At only P550 per box, it is a dessert luxury worth indulging, even if you’re not a chocolate lover like moi.

Junjun’s BBQ - Anton bought a bunch of this on our way to dinner and I agree that it is Pampanga’s version of Aristocrat. Their branch in San Fernando is spacious and even has a mini indoor playground.

Mely’s Sisig - the best sisig for me. I simply had to order this again!

Many thanks to Spanky, Anton and his family – Rache and Aidan. It was also nice meeting Kendrick, Nina, Maong, Luisa, Rommel and Clauds. Great to see you guys – sorry to keep you waiting during our duty-free shopping trip :P
