While munching on our yummy KK giveaways after the last BlogCon, Karla and Aaron clued me in on this great doughnut place found in the university towns of La Salle and Ateneo. I made a mental note to visit whenever I got anywhere near Vito Cruz and was glad to do so one sunny day. Certainly I didn’t regret one bit munching on this doughnut brand – an all-Filipino concoction which could give Western donut chains a run, run,run for their money.
I ordered two of the house bestsellers, the cheese and Oreo donuts with brewed coffee. The Oreo screamed for more chocolate-y flavor but the cheese one I liked and could munch on forever. I don’t remember eating cheese donut before. Curiosity got the better of me and asked the countergirl what it was, she said it was parmesan. Whew!
By my second bite, I was impressed that Cello’s – an all-Filipino brand- can be unique in so many ways. One is their Ice Cream Creations which are downright sinful but the ultimate treat for your sweet tooth. A big scoop of chocolate ice cream piled on top of your donut is a classic but Super Strawberry is exciting as well. They have your usual bite-sized cocktail pieces and square donuts called “Pillows.” There are also interesting C-shaped donuts, formed as such so you can easily dip them in your chosen flavors like Nutella, Toblerone, Dark Belgian Choco White Chocolate and Dulce de leche.
What’s amazing about all of this is that Cello’s Donuts are priced to fit the student’s budget. Take-aways are wrapped in colorful orange boxes with ribbon to boot. In terms of taste and quality, Cello’s is a real winner.
