In search of the strongest coffee

My job is almost cushy save for the fact that it requires me to work on the graveyard shift for a few days every three weeks. I dread it when it comes knowing that my body is conditioned to doze off, 2 a.m. at the latest. Early on, my mom determined I could not be a lawyer no matter how I wanted to take the course post-college. She knew I would simply sleep through all those books and documents.

It is therefore ironic that I’d find myself in a job which miraculously teems with life 24/7. Six o’clock in the morning and there are still lots of people huddled over the gaming tables or the slot machines. I’ve been a player before so I know how it feels. Simply couldn’t explain the adrenaline rush of the tables, knowing that you’re betting all that money as if your life depended on it.

Back to my line of work…. am amazed that some officemates have their own way of coping with graveyard blues, and that is simply to sleep through the day so they can come out fresh for night time work. Am not the type who can do that since am a light sleeper and will most likely be working at home/ shopping/ running after my kids during the day. The strongest antidote I’ve found for being able to stand on my two feet during graveyard duties is subsisting on a cup or two of hot coffee, the stronger the better. One of the perks of my job is having free designer/gourmet coffee and when all else fails I buy ‘em outside. The most effective and potent wake-uppers on my list:

Mocha Blends Long Black (Piccolo or Medio, at P70 to 80 bucks)

Figaro Brewed

UCC Sumayaki Blend (this coffee shop chain also has the most expensive cup of coffee locally at P349 per cup for their Blue Mountain No. 1 Coffee)

Unfortunately, am no Starbucks fan :P Your suggestions on the “strongest coffee” (and surviving the graveyard shift) would be much appreciated.

Figaro’s the strongest by far, and the most delicious strong coffee too. Barako blend. Gold. Yeah!

Baguio Blend sa Baguio City Market, syempre.

      P150.00 per kilo,
brew it as strong as you like!!

so much better than the lukewarm, too sweet crapuccino that Starbucks trendoids endure.

      Mabuhay ang Kapeng Pinoy!!!

      Mabuhay ang FIGARO!!!!
