Am not a big fan of plane rides, but going from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi by land would otherwise take us 32 to 40 hours. It seems we had no choice but to book this domestic flight with the state carrier Vietnam Airlines which cost more than the PAL ticket going out of Manila. The plane from HCMC would take us to Hanoi in one hour 40 minutes, or just about the same time it would take to travel from Manila to Davao. It is my first time to fly Vietnam Airlines and I was happy that they used big planes in both directions: a Boeing 777 on the way to Hanoi and an Airbus ... Continue Reading...

Ho Chi Minh: best city in Asia to have a tasty US $1 to $4 meal
... or at least that was my impression as I began to explore Saigon's culinary offerings. I am not even talking of street food yet, but chow you can enjoy in a restaurant setting. Bangkok and Manila can probably give Ho Chi Minh City a run for its money but as I said in my previous post, we're talking here of food that's good, fast, fresh, cheap and consistent, one that involves a generous serving of meat and seafood. Here's what I found: Goi cuon or fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce for three pieces at 24000 dong or approximately $1.22, 40 cents ... Continue Reading...
Hello Saigon! #maypogidito :D
Mr. Z and I arrived in Ho Chi Minh city yesterday. It's a dream trip where we will have a short sampling of the South (Saigon) and North (Hanoi) in the next few days. I am already feeling the vibe and spirit of Vietnam, especially the food! Took this photo of the city's infamous flock of motorcycles from the window of our taxi yesterday. Their presence is like a colony of ants! :D I changed 3,000 Taiwanese dollars (left over from my previous trip) at the airport and got 1,920,000 dongs. Yay, this is one country where you can easily feel like a millionaire!! ... Continue Reading...
Bazaar selling tips from this blogger bazaarista wanna-be :)
Last December 4, I was able to do one of the things in my wish list and that is join a bazaar! I was into it just for fun and the experience, not really for the money. What better place to do so than at the newly-opened Mercato Centrale weekend food market at the Fort slash Bonifacio Global City area. Fellow bloggers Noemi Dado and Melo Villareal arrived at the appointed time which was 6 a.m.! Shame on me because I organized our food bloggers' participation and I arrived one hour late, jeje. Noemi and Melo were really well-prepared, complete with food-themed ... Continue Reading...
Premium Brands Midnight Sale on December 15-17, 2010
In my bid to visit major bazaars in the metro, I've put this on my calendar: The Premium Brands Midnight Sale happening on December 15 to 17 at the Megatent Events Venue along Meralco Avenue, Pasig City, from 12 noon to 12 midnight. The good thing is that this bazaar is all happening for a good cause. The main proponent is JCI-Manila or more popularly known as the Manila Jaycees. They will use proceeds from the sale to fund their noteworthy projects for the community such as the Alay Lakad, the Ten Outstanding Young Policemen (TOYP), the Blessed Theresa of Calcutta ...
