Reese Fernandez, founder of the award-winning social enterprise company Rags2Riches, is the epitome of cute. Even though it was a fashion show-cum-cocktail affair, she exuded "casual" with jeggings and an attractive top in abstract design. If am not mistaken, the top is by Forever 21. In her short-sleeved faux leather jacket and denim get-up from Topshop, Ford Supermodel of the World 2011 Danica Magpantay shows a feminine side to being rugged. While I think wearing leather jackets in humid Manila is an anomaly, Danica tells us that there's a stylish way to do ... Continue Reading...

Oliver Tolentino designs bags for Rags2Riches
Multi-awarded Filipino couturier Oliver Tolentino designed the bags and the women of Payatas crafted them. They fall under the label Makulay collection, the latest in the designer lin-up of social enterprise Rags2Riches. Previous collaborations were with Rajo Laurel and Amina Aranaz. The bags look beautiful.... who would ever think they're made from scrap clothing and indigenous materials? They're certainly timely for summer, and beyond! Here are some of my favorites: Nothing looks whimsical than a fringe bag with wooden handle. Retaso (cuttings) will never ... Continue Reading...
Midas Hotel, Roxas Boulevard: a first look
The CLEAR event was a good excuse to check out Midas Hotel where Piolo and Bea Alonzo held their presscon. I've been curious about Midas which was formerly the Hyatt Regency hotel along Roxas Boulevard, until the family of Jose Mari Chan (the singer) decided to sell it to new owners. Hyatt was popular during its heyday and one of my last memories of the place was having lunch with a fortuneteller at the Tempura Misono. I forgot his name now, but he was good! (sabi nya kasi yayaman daw ako! hahaha) I digress. Midas would have been just another hotel I've visited ... Continue Reading...
Bea Alonzo & Piolo Pascual for new CLEAR shampoo
At a press event last week, I had my hair analyzed via a tool that set off an image of my scalp on the computer. Being a very busy person, taking care of my hair is something I take for granted, preferring to do my hair spas at home rather than the salon. I honestly thought I would fare low in the scalp test they asked me to take via a set of questions. Turns out am normal and have in fact healthy hair! But am not sitting on my laurel, or should I say crowning glory. Am raring to try the new line of CLEAR anti-dandruff shampoos which they introduced to us at the ... Continue Reading...
Shalani Soledad in ‘blah’ cover for Preview, May 2011
I got hold (rather belatedly) of Preview magazine's latest issue with Shalani Soledad on the cover.Preview is one of my fave mags from Summit, aside from Yummy, and I always try to buy every month. Shalani, on the other hand, is one of the most searched terms on this blog. It's no wonder then that she emerged No. 1 in Google Philippines' list of 20 Most Influential Women last year, edging out the likes of Kris Aquino & Ruffa Gutierrez. But I just have to say this cover is so unappealing and doesn't do the popular cover girl justice. Maybe Shalani erred in entering a ... Continue Reading...
