Malaysian cuisine is dear to me. It was the first Asian cuisine I discovered on my own, overseas. I have fond memories of hanging out in Jalan Alor, KL and Penang where the street food was good enough that I wouldn’t look anywhere else.
Thanks to cheap air travel and the exodus of foreign/foreign-owned cuisines to the country’s major cities, we don’t have to look too far. And of course, there are the regular offerings by the five-star hotels. Like what the Diamond Hotel is unveiling from September 5 to 16 with Makanan Lazat: A Malaysian Food Festival. The festival showcases the culinary diversity of Malaysia as interpreted by Philippine-based Malaysian Chef Cheong Yan See of Enderun Colleges.
Out of the long array of food lined up in the buffet, we highly recommend trying out a warm bowl of Curry Laksa (egg noodles with coconut curry broth). If you haven’t been introduced to Malaysian food, this is a must-taste. And if you’re familiar to the cuisine, prepare to be addicted. The laksa at Corniche is one of the best I’ve tasted in town… too bad this is for a limited time only.

The Malaysian Food Festival is available for only Php 1,600 nett per person, or at Php 1,888 nett to include a free flow of tropical juices. And as you dine, experience a Malaysian spectacle with live demonstration by Chef Francis Loh, of how Teh Tarik, an Indian milk tea beverage, is made with some serious tea-pouring skills.
