This day has been busy with a visit to the Makati Med emergency room to have my youngest daughter checked. So yes, I only learned late this afternoon that Pinay caregiver Rose Fostanes was declared the grand winner of X Factor Israel. In a previous post, we already anticipated her win and in Rose's audition video, it was almost like she had a premonition about her success: "Maybe if I join and win in this competition my life will change.” My online friend Reyna Elena's friendly advice to Rose is to stay grounded and it makes sense (just don't let Kim Henares come & ... Those funny Pinoy business names
I've been seeing a lot of funny business signs/business names in Parañaque City lately. When I was just new to the area, it was just Robocock, a small chicken feeds store which has since been bulldozed & replaced by an SM Hypermarket. Anyway, am mentioning this because Greek Taverna, the resto I blogged in my previous post is beside a beauty salon cleverly named Starbuhoks, using the same mermaid logo as the coffee chain. (buhok in Filipino is hair) Potential copyright issue here but I don't think a big name like Starbucks should even bother. This salon is ... Continue Reading...
Village food: Greek Taverna Restaurant
Despite being in Metro Manila's far South, I am still thankful for little blessings. Like being 15 minutes away from the airports. And eating 'international' food when I want to, without having to go to the major malls, the Fort or Makati. Greek Taverna has been my favorite 'village' restaurant in Parañaque city for the past year and somehow, I've never written about it. Now time to divulge the secret: am at the stage in my life when I really love Mediterranean food - how it uses basic ingredients while being tasty and allowing the natural flavors to come out, with ... Homemade bangus sardines
Expect more recipe posts here because my New Year's resolution is to eat in more, rather than eat out, and I will be sharing my discoveries along the way ;) Right after the gluttony of the holidays, the usual tendency is to go meatless. It so happens that I really love our native milkfish, bangus. I dig its delicate flavor & the fact that it goes well with any type of cooking - whether mixed with vinegar (as paksiw), soy sauce (bistek) or simply pan-fried. Here's another variation..cooked in olive oil, or what's commonly called bangus sardines. This is usually sold ... Continue Reading...
Rose Fostanes in X Factor Israel finals
Was watching today Youtube videos of Filipina caregiver Rose Fostanes who has advanced to the first season finals of X Factor Israel. Having been an OFW myself, it's really nice when some of the country's unsung heroes make waves in the international scene. In the case of Rose who has the support of countless Pinoys from all over, who knows... she just might be the grand winner of Season 1 after going through the gruelling eliminations! In the meantime, here's her rendition of Kelly Clarkson's 'Because of You' in the January 6 semis... Although she works ... Continue Reading...
