Flying @thaiairways to Bangkok

My first time flying with TG was through a media familiarization tour of Bangkok and Ayutthaya back in my newspaper days. And since I don’t always go to Thailand, I was excited to try Thai Airways during our recent family trip, this time as a paying customer.

Since am quite the ‘nervous flyer,’ finding the cheapest fare isn’t the most important thing for me, but rather feeling ‘safe’ with an airline. So I read Wikipedia entries and customer feedback. The reviews were mixed. But I was glad to find out that for a last-minute booking to Bangkok like what I did, Thai Airways comes out cheaper on some days compared to PAL and 5J.

This was my 5-year old daughter Lucia’s first trip out of the country so it was quite a big deal. I was happy we flew Thai for a few reasons:

1. Using NAIA’s Terminal 1 which was nearer our place of residence and therefore less traffic on the way. It’s also less chaotic than Terminal 3 which is getting to be too crowded with the passengers of the major airlines.

2. Flying in a Boeing 777. I prefer bigger planes… less bumpy 🙂

3. Inflight meal that’s more than decent, even for economy class. On the flight back to Manila (TG 624), they served this smoked salmon salad, cherry cake and delicious pork meat balls as main course. You can have your fill of red and white wine too.

4. Wide selections on the inflight entertainment. My kiddo was certainly preoccupied.

I found the crew uniforms to be impressive. Look at the colors, so easy on the eye…

Service on board was also up to par and attentive. But then again, this is pretty common with Asian airlines.

Rating: will definitely fly TG again. Because I was at work the whole day, my only mistake was booking the 8PM flight to Bangkok (TG 621). It meant we arrived in Thailand close to midnight and my daughter was in the depth of her sleep. Uh huh.
