Last February, my friend Shiela and I booked our tickets to Fukuoka in Japan not knowing that our arrival date would also signal the flowering of the cherry blossoms in the area. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Being first-timers in Fukuoka, we loved the cool weather, the food, the laid-back vibe of the place and most of all, relishing the sakura experience. Hello spring! Our first stop was the beautiful Ohori Park which was fortunately near our hotel. It had this serene lake which reminded us of Baguio's Burnham Park. It was March 25 ... Continue Reading...

Immunotherapy offers hope for cancer patients
Lung cancer and melanoma patients, particularly those in the advanced stages, can now explore a new option in treatment through a breakthrough called immunotherapy which has lesser known side effects than chemo. In serious cases of cancer, a protein found in the tumor called the Programmed Death-Ligand 1 (PD-L1) deactivates the immune system's T-cells so they become incapable of recognizing and destroying cancer cells. With immunotherapy, this interaction is blocked so that T-cells can detect and ward off the cancer cells. In a symposium on "The Future of ... Continue Reading...
New ways to cook with Spanish sardines this Lent
Holy Week 2016 is upon us and you know what this means. A lot of people in this Catholic-dominated country will be fasting or just resort to eating fish, vegetables and seafood. I happen to be one of those who have taken a vow to just eat light for Lent and give up on the gluttony. Sardines is reputed to be a good source of essential Omega 3 fatty acids, aside from being very high in calcium ... Continue Reading...
Review of Regal Airport Hotel & their HK Disneyland package
Staying NEAR Hong Kong Disneyland is one cost-friendly option that tourists can consider when visiting the theme park. That's right. You don't have to stay in Disneyland because the room only package was quite pricey the last time I looked. We have also stayed in Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel years back and it was time to consider a new experience. My internet surfing led me to the website of Regal Airport Hotel and I was glad to stumble upon their Disneyland room package which I thought was good value. For as low as HKD$2288 for a superior room, the package already ... Continue Reading...
HK must-eats : Kam’s Roast Goose & Yat Lok
When in Hong Kong, I happily recommend going on a wild goose chase (pardon the pun) in any of the 1 star Michelin restaurants that serve, well....the famed roasted goose! One might argue that we have every imaginable franchise food chain in Manila but not these restos. Their locations are kinda out of the way (hence 'goose chase) but you can easily satisfy your tummy and tastebuds for less than HKD$100.Now who can argue with that? The first restaurant I tried a few years ago was Yat Lok over at Stanley St. in Central. The roasted goose was so juicy and flavorful ... Continue Reading...
