Thai Original BBQ of LA opens in BGC

Thai Original BBQ and Restaurant is a popular chain which started in Los Angeles, California. It has opened here in Manila, particularly where Tony Roma’s used to be in the Fort Strip, Bonifacio Global City.

We were invited to lunch before their soft opening last November 29 and had a good preview of their tasty and generous meal offerings. We think Thai BBQ Original is another must-visit for people who want value for money options in sampling Asian cuisine in the metro.

I started my lunch with this pomelo salad. I wished the pomelo slices were ‘plumpier’ but no worries since the dressing that went with this were to my liking. The salad excited my palate for what was to come.

My dining seatmates had the catfish salad which they said was very good. Too bad I missed this and definitely trying it for next time.

When dining in the restaurant either as a family or a large group of friends, look for the House Specials item in the menu because they’re the bestsellers and good for sharing. An order comes with a big platter of shrimp rice already and are priced from P580 to P700.

The beef sate was my favorite. The meat was so tender and flavorful, maybe because they were well-marinated.

There’s also the chicken sate, or if you want…a combination of all – beef, pork and chicken.

The BBQ Spare Ribs was a big chunk of fall off-to-the-bone goodness.

I couldn’t have enough of the prawn curry as well, which has egg mixed into the delicious sauce.

The Kaiyang or BBQ Chicken is one of the most requested dishes in Thai Original BBQ LA. It’s like your favorite roast chicken with an addicting honey-infused sauce.

While Thai chefs have been imported for the opening of Thai Original BBQ restaurant in Manila, I get the impression that the execution of the Thai dishes are more of the American version, instead of what you would normally find in Thailand.

But the bagoong rice stays true to form….

The tom yum goong also tastes authentic. Love the classy, colorful container for the soup.

I was already too full with the main courses, but I was still tempted to try their divine Thai halo-halo which had sticky rice with mango inside as one of the ingredients. Whew.

Other house specialties worth trying are the pandan chicken, Thai curry crab, crispy oyster cake, papaya salad and fried garoupa with mango salad.

The new casual dining restaurant – which seats up to 100 diners – is decorated in chic modern interiors, boasting of stone bricks and a soothing palette of neutrals.

Thai Original BBQ & Restaurant is located beside KPub BBQ, Fort Entertainment Center, 5th Avenue cor. 28th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
