Have you just booked your holiday to cure your wanderlust? Yes? Wonderful start!
Now comes the more difficult part: waiting and packing. But the time leading up to your holiday does not have to be stressful. You can have fun planning for your trip and figuring out what to pack in your suitcase!
A note of caution: don’t get too carried away with how much you pack because you don’t want to be burdened by a heavy suitcase. When travelling by plane or one of its many alternatives, I
recommend going minimal, where “less is more”.
If you want to avoid the sky rocketing prices airlines are charging for checked baggage, your best bet is taking everything you need in a carry-on. This is a more feasible option if you’re just going on a shorter weekend or even week trip somewhere.
With airplane carry-on sizes getting more and more restricted, we hardly have any space anymore so packing smart is important. Every item you choose should be compact, durable, and have multiple uses.
By bringing just a carry-on, you won’t have to worry about lost luggage and waiting for your bag at baggage claim at your destination. Free from these worries, you’re guaranteed to have a
hassle-free and memorable trip.
So, whether you’re planning a backpacking trip around Asia or a spur-of-the-moment weekend getaway, a carry-on is the way to go. Along with your travelling essentials, like your travel documents and your toothbrush, here are some of my travel basics for your carry-on.
Make sure you pack these in your carry-on so you don’t forget them on the day you leave! A classic cat-eye or wayfarer style are good, versatile options.
REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE
This eco-friendly option stops you from having to buy single-use plastic water bottles.
You don’t want to be stuck somewhere where you’re unfamiliar with a dead phone. Take the time to double check that you have chargers for your phone, your camera, computer, eReader, you name it!
ALL-IN-ONE LIQUID SOAP
For your hair, face and body, as well as your laundry. Make sure you get travel-sized soap or in bar form.
A microfiber towel is a great option as it can be rolled up tightly and dries quickly.
To keep your breath fresh on long journeys, get a pack of gum. This is double duty because it also helps your ears get rid of built up pressure on flights. And maybe you’ll even make a friend if you offer one to your neighbor!
You’ll need a durable pair of shoes you can explore all day in. Some pointed toe flats, for example, can be dressed up or down and are stylish yet lightweight.
The clothing you pack will depend on the weather at your destination. But no matter where you’re going, it’s a good idea to have comfortable layers you can add to or take off.
V-necks are a classic option that you can layer as necessary.
A few pairs of stretchy leggings are essential as you can wear them at any time and with any outfit be it for a hike or a night out.
Don’t forget to bring one nice outfit for going out, or if you get asked to dinner. A versatile dress is a perfect idea because you can wear it from day into night.
No matter where you are in the world, there’s always a possibility of rain. Be prepared and don’t let that ruin your day!
Everything that you touch on the train or the plane has probably been touched by someone before you. See our guide for more tips on how to stay healthy while traveling.
Argan or coconut oil works wonders for your face, lips, hair and body.
Sunscreen is a must for ensuring healthy skin. Again, make sure you bring a travel size. You don’t want these liquid items taken from you by the TSA.
This may seem like a frivolous addition in a small carry-on, but a little can go a long way. Try getting products that have two uses like a lipstick and cheek stain, and an eyebrow gel and mascara.
We hope this simple list helps get you ready for your vacation!
