  1. The new St. Luke’s Medical Center at Bonifacio Global City

    January 26, 2010 by ajay

On the way to the car dealership, we passed by the new St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City and can’t help but be impressed by how imposing it was from the outside. It looked fairly empty too, as expected of a hospital which has just opened. I do expect to see it one of these days since my obstetrician-gynecologist also holds clinic here.

Anyway, I could never guess what this room was. Is it a condo or a room in a five-star hotel? No to both. It is part of the presidential suite of the new St. Luke’s. (via isabelledaza on Twitter)

  2. Immune kids are happy kids!

    Immunity Foundation

Back when I was a single mom, having healthy, disease-free kids was on top of my prayer list.I believed that anybody sick in the family would bring me grief. Talk about the trouble of having sleepless nights, being absent from work and school, not to mention the high price of medicine these days.

Thankfully, my kids have grown up to be healthy, with no hospitalization or prolonged illness on record. Blame it on luck, good genes and other things. But I really attribute it to being proactive, rather than being reactive, to matters of health and wellness. Being healthy is something you never really leave to chance. It’s something we have to practice everyday through such things as diet and lifestyle choices. It’s always been my dictum that good health is the supreme key to happiness.

Here are some pieces of advice I can give to fellow moms, and especially new moms who are rearing their children into their first years:

  3. A beauty day at the Ricky Reyes One-on-One salon

    July 30, 2009 by ajay

I’ve been meaning to do something to my two-year old hair which was almost reaching my waist. The last treatment it got was for this hair technology called Japanese straight, a thermal reconditioning treatment similar to hair rebonding. Prior to that, I had hair extensions done in China, if only because it was super-cheap there. It lasted me close to three months. I was almost certain my next hair phase would be digital perm in a Korean parlor , until I got an invitation for a pampering day at Ricky Reyes One-on-One salon. It was something I simply had to say “yes” to, even if I had to hitch a ride with Sasha to faraway Libis.

What made the whole session special? It was no other than “Hair Majesty” Mother Ricky Reyes who styled my hair. I felt thrilled to be primped by the Philippines’ most successful hairstylist whose rags-to-riches story has inspired many. What’s comforting is that she’s so down-to-earth in real life. I can still remember those funny words she uttered while layering my mane and putting on soft bangs : “Ano ba yan day, ba’t ang haba ng buhok mo? Hindi na uso si Dyesebel, si Darna na ngayon!” :P

  4. Ventosa cupping experience @ The Red Oak, Two Serendra

    Ventosa Cupping

Ventosa cupping has been on my to-do list for a long time now. As a spa enthusiast, I’ve always been curious how it goes. All I know is that you’re supposed to end up with round little splotches on your back. At an event recently, I finally had the chance to have it done, but almost backed out when I saw the suction cups being pressed on somebody and witnessed the not-so-savory sight of raised flesh!

Me : Ewwwwe! Doesn’t it hurt?

Therapist : Don’t think about it. You won’t see your back looking like this, right? You’ll be lying face down.

That’s how I imagined it to be: 12 injections on my back which lasted for something like 10 minutes. Would be hypocritical to say pain was negligible, because it’s not. But as humans with built-in mechanism for tolerance, I would say you’ll get used to it. :P It’s only ten minutes anyhow. Just get it over and done with.
