  2. Physiogel for dry skin

    February 20, 2012 by ajay

I first heard of Physiogel from a derma who recommended it to me and my babies. This is one product that I don’t often see in supermarket shelves but is a fixture in drugstores and skin clinics. That certainly says something about Physiogel’s reputation among pharmacists and doctors.

It’s secret? The ability to resuscitate dry skin with a revolutionary technology called Derma Membrane Structure (DMS). DMS repairs the skin barrier and helps prevent moisture loss, whereas conventional moisturizers may only provide temporary moisturization by coating the outer layer of skin. Physiogel is clinically proven to lock in moisture in skin for up to three days even with washing. This is certainly good news for people who go through their daily life having dry and seemingly unhealthy skin.

Truth is, one of three women or 35% have dry skin and are not aware of it, let alone know how they can prevent their skin condition from worsening. Among the causes of dry skin are the following: prolonged exposure to air conditioning, smoking, stress and exposure to outdoor elements such as sun, wind and cold air. Bathing or cleansing in hot water or with soap also does not leave kind effects on skin. All these factors bring damage to the skin barrier.

    February 18, 2012 by ajay

It sounds highfallutin but this is the way to go if you’ve got a sick relative or a loved one who is not well. The Watsons Compliance Pack is best recommended for people diagnosed with chronic illnesses like hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol levels).

Simply put, the pack is so-called because it’s sold in packs of 30s for easier compliance of patients in taking their daily medications. Prices have been brought down further to enable more patients to afford it.

  4. Tiaong: Coming Into Its Own – the book

    February 11, 2012 by ajay

Ninety six kilometers south of Muntinlupa, Tiaong in Quezon Province is the quintessential “old hometown” that’s been coming into its own and positioning itself among the many steadily modernizing towns in the country.

It holds bittersweet memories among its locals who have left its hills and lakes and the watchful presence of Mt. Banahaw and Mt. Cristobal for the big cities here and abroad. Hence, the publication of the new coffeetable book called Tiaong: Coming Into Its Own is very timely.

    TIAONG book

The book was launched recently at the Filipinas Heritage Library, Nielson Tower in Ayala Avenue, Makati City.Published by the Tiaong Lubid-Lubid Foundation, Inc. under the helm of its president Cris Aquino, the book is written by journalist Abe Florendo, with archival research done by Dulce Festin-Baybay and Dr. Luis Camara Dery, images by Donald Tapan and Ramon Jeffrey Florendo, and book design by Teody Hidalgo.

The book revives Tiaong’s illustrious place in history since its establishment as a visita then as encomienda of Nayum in the early 1600s: its important role in the coconut economy and political expansion during the Spanish colonial times, its contributions to the independence efforts during the war, the inspiring heroism and nationalism of its sons and daughters, among them, Claro M. Recto and the “Anak ng Tiaong” who was sent by his father to study in China and went on to become the distinguished commander of Mao Tse Tung’s People’s Liberation Army, Gen. Ye Fei.

  8. Park & Sell bazaar from Dec. 2-23 at Boom na Boom grounds

    November 25, 2011 by ajay

If you’ve been to Boom na Boom near Star City in Manila, it’s interesting to know that there’s something new happening there for your last-minute Christmas shopping needs.

Park &Sell @ Boom na Boom

Park and Sell, a new concept in holiday shopping, opens its grounds on Dec. 2, at the Boom na Boom complex (in front of World Trade Center), Gil Puyat Avenue, Pasay City.
With opening hours from 4 p.m. till 12 midnight, and to run until Dec. 23, Park and Sell is a tiangge with a twist where entrepreneurs are provided a 30-square meter space where they can park, sell their goods from their cars, pack up, and go!

” This is a good venue for start-up entrepreneurs and those who sell one-of-a-kind goods. They don’t have to rent expensive spaces in malls or in tiangges. Shoppers, on the other hand, will have a good time browsing through the selection of local and imported goods,” says Haydee Kwan of the Philippine Exhibits and Themeparks Corporation (PETCO), organizer of Park and Sell.

  9. World Osteoporosis Day with Anlene

    November 11, 2011 by ajay

Note to self: drink more milk than coffee, especially at this stage in life when good ol’ me is at risk for osteoporosis.

Here’s the official literature: “Osteoporosis occurs when the bone mass decreases quickly more than the body can replace it, leading to a net loss of bone strength. As a result, bones become brittle that even a slight bump can lead to painful fractures. It affects all bones in the body but fractures occur mostly in the spine, hips, and wrist. The alarming part is that, according to statistics, 20% of those who suffer hip fracture die within six months after the fracture. What is so critical about osteoporosis is that it manifests no signs or symptoms until a fracture occurs. Dubbed as the silent disease, osteoporosis almost always leads to irreparable damage or even fatality if not addressed early on.”

I just hope it’s not too late (to combat the dreaded O!)

In the Philippines, World Osteoporosis Day was commemorated recently under the auspices of leading adult milk brand Anlene. Close to 4,000 Filipino women from all over the country joined hands to raise awareness on the fatal silent disease.Simultaneous events under the umbrella theme “Kumilos ka, Sis” were held in Quezon City, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Baguio and Bacolod to highlight the cause of osteoporosis and how it greatly affects one’s quality of life.

Anlene conducted a Nationwide Bone Health Check Caravan to scan about 4,000 Filipinos to educate people about bone health and assess if they’re at risk of osteoporosis.

  10. Digital Hub now offers Protect + insurance for Apple products

    November 9, 2011 by ajay

    Philfire Easel Board

Good service and warranty is the reason why people are loyal to Apple products (rest in peace, Steve Jobs!) I still remember the time when something went wrong with my aluminum Macbook’s LCD screen. Thankfully, we were subscribed to Apple Care and had it brought for repair with no fuss at a Power Mac Center. In a week, they returned my unit with a flawless screen and it certainly felt like my lappy was all-new again.

And now, am glad to learn that the Philippines’ leading Apple reseller Digital Hub is offering the Protect+ coverage for Apple products like the Macbook, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, iMac, iMac Mini, iPad, and iPod (excluded is the iPhone). Protect+ is just an extension to AppleCare 1 or 3 years warranty and not a replacement.

For a certain fee, Protect+ covers the following: 12 months protection from accidental damage, standard repairs and unit replacement, and 12 months protection from theft.
