  1. BlackBerry unveils Made for Playbook range

    August 28, 2011 by ajay

BB users, take a look! BlackBerry has unveiled a Made for Playbook line of accessories for its beloved tablet. We think they’re oozing with style and class, designed not only to personalize the Playbook but also to protect it. The range carries such labels as Delvaux, Valextra, Ettinger, Brooklyn, Porter, WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie and Ganzo.

Here are some of the accessories we love from the collection:

BB case in Aqua from Brooklyn Japan is crafted from French calfskin. Aside from holding the Playbook, there’s enough space for pen, business cards and notes.

Case in Italian calfskin leather from WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie. The Playbook is held in its place by elasticated leather straps and there are also extra slots for notes and business cards.

Anyway, the friendly publicists of BlackBerry Philippines invited me to see the BlackBerry Playbook up close and browse with it however I want.It was through a fun photoshoot where I was supposed to hold the Playbook and say cheese to the camera of seasoned lensman Louie Aguinaldo. Yay! I actually felt like I was modelling for the day! And I loved the Playbook for being so compact and user-friendly.

  2. Unlimited Blu-Ray disc rentals with Samsung BluPass promo

    August 22, 2011 by ajay

You’re probably stuck in the 90s if you’re still watching movies in DVD in this day and age.Okay, we understand. After all, DVDs cost only 50 pesos from your friendly “pirate” on the street.

The truth is, your good ol’ dibidi is apt for your old boxy CRT TV but no longer the present generation of LCD and 3D TVs. It’s all simple: what’s the point of having a high-tech, state-of-the-art TV if you’re taking forever to download from the torrents or still watching in DVDs that skip and scratch (or worse, pirated?) The solution? Choose Blu-Ray!

Blu-Ray is the highest quality video format now available but it’s adoption by the public has been sidelined by the steep cost of those genuine Blu ray discs (from P1200 to P1500 each).

Taking cognizance of the problem, Samsung and Tradeport E-Solutions Inc. have banded together to offer the Samsung BluPass promo.

    blupass

Available from August 15, 2011 to December 31, 2011, any customer who purchases a Samsung Blu-ray player or Samsung Flat Panel TV (LED, LCD, and Plasma TV) that comes with a Blu-ray player package, will automatically receive a Samsung BluPass card.

    What’s in the card?

    1. For six months, you will be able to rent out high-quality regular and 3D Blu-ray titles from a vast online library of movies, and audio-visual entertainment for FREE!”

  3. Anne Curtis plays a high-flying agent in new Smart TVC

    August 22, 2011 by ajay

    Anne Curtis for Smart

Anne Curtis looks hot as usual in the new Smart campaign where she plays an acrobatic heroine named Agent Anne. And the best thing? she claims to have done most of the stunts herself.

“I think it’s cool because I’ve endorsed Smart before, but this time it’s a different face. Sumu-superhero na ako!,” the popular actress and singer says.

Anne recalled that her first Smart cellphone was under the Price Buster plan and fellow actor Patrick Garcia was the endorser of the service at the time. “Wala pa ngang text noon, haha!” she notes.

With the new product she’s endorsing under Smart’s UNLI Postpaid Plans, users can now pay only a low monthly fee of P299 or P599 and get an UNLI text or UNLI call and text, respectively.

  6. Galaxy S Wifi 5.0, the latest Samsung android phone, is entertainment-focused

    July 20, 2011 by ajay

*Sigh* a reader tells me in this comment thread, that the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 won’t have any phone functionality but can do video calls using Gtalk and such. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is supposed to be my next phone after I won it in a launch raffle last month! :D am still awaiting the package, and have said goodbye to that amazing review unit that was the Samsung Galaxy S II. My “what will be my next phone dilemma” continues…..

In the meantime, Samsung has announced the availability of the Galaxy S Wifi 5.0, describing it as the “mini-tablet for the entertainment enthusiast.” We bet this handsome phone has a cheaper price than the fully-loaded S II. Here are some of its specs:

  7. Download Internet Explorer 9

    July 8, 2011 by ajay

Download the all-new, ultra-fast Internet Explorer 9 using this link to test IE9 and see the difference!

    IE9

We all know this is the era of the speedy, supersonic browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla, Safari, Opera..you name it.Internet Explorer is also in this Hall of Fame but it has taken a fall in recent years despite the fact that for most of us, it was the first-ever browser we were introduced to in our colorful web-surfing life.

My major complaint with this browser: it was slow! Some of the sites/ blogs I was reading also weren’t compatible with it.

I am glad all this is about to change with the newest Internet Explorer version called IE 9 (download link here) I’ve just installed it on my white HP Mini Toord Boontje without much pain. The browser runs on Windows 7 and Windows Vista (though unfortunately not on Windows XP and earlier).

Here’s a quick run-through of the features and a review of my IE9 experience:

    - Easy install and even faster loading
    - High-definition videos, clear graphics, vibrant colors and websites are interactive than ever before
    - Pin sites by dragging the icon or tab of your fave websites to the Windows Taskbar. Opening them next time takes just one click and you won’t even have to launch IE separately

  8. Save Social Energy!

    July 1, 2011 by ajay

    save social energy

I grew up in the 90s meeting people in bars and parties. These days, much of the socializing is done online, through Facebook, blogs, forums and other virtual communities. I’ve counted my FB friends (1,500 or so of them) and realized that 70 per cent of them I wouldn’t recognize if I met them on the street. Then it dawns on me that I’ve been spending most of my time facing dear lappy in the bedroom. The friend I used to have coffee with in 1999 is now the friend who sold me a cookie cutter in Multiply, chatted with me after a webinar or added me as a pal on Foursquare.

Frankly, I see nothing wrong with this increasingly virtual world we’re in. Juggling work, blogging, family and more work (!!) is no easy task, and that is why it is a better idea to drop me a line on Windows Messenger than let me brave the traffic or ride the train for a short tete-a-tete. But I have to admit all this social networking stuff can sometimes be overwhelming.

Mind you, things happen online like they do in the real world. It’s easy to be distracted by who’s gossiping about who, who’s raising hell about what and all those strange friend requests you sometimes see. There’s definitely a need to organize and achieve balance if we’re able to make good use of our time in in the internetz.

That’s why am all for this site called Save Social Energy. Basically, this movement is pinned on the premise that we must use our time on the social networks more efficiently. As online denizens, we are “exposed to a lot of clutter and can end up missing on the conversations that are truly important.”

  9. Samsung Galaxy S II is the first 4G Android smartphone in the Philippines…. and we have our final list of winners!

    June 22, 2011 by ajay

So yes, most people got it right. The mystery phone that we have been talking about in this blog is the Samsung Galaxy S II ( Model: GT-I9100) which was launched by Samsung Philippines yesterday along with the new generation of jaw-dropping Galaxy Tabs.

Some of the country’s top techies are shown carrying the Samsung Galaxy S II as their phone of choice today (no kidding!) In photo (from left) is Manila Bulletin Technews editor Art Samaniego, bloggers Rico Mossesgeld and Jayvee Fernandez. The lone lady in yellow is PR maven Annie Ringor.

    Galaxy S II

I’ve been talking a lot about the Galaxy S II’s engaging features and we learned from Ms. Coco Domingo, Product Marketing Head of SEPCO’s Mobile Communications Business that their latest gadget is also the first 4G smartphone to arrive in the country. This means that its HSPA+ connectivity will deliver faster-than-fast download and upload speeds while BlueTooth® 3.0+HS considerably reduces data transfer times.

“Galaxy S II is a natural and powerful evolution of the highly successful Samsung Galaxy S. With the Galaxy S2, Samsung is setting the new standard of quality viewing on mobile, with a powerful performance, and slim and modern design,” states Glenn Glinoga, Business Unit Director of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Philippines.

In a nutshell, here are the specifications for both Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9: Android Honeycomb (version 3.1) operating system, 1 GHz Dual Core Processor, web-browsing with flash support, 1080p full HD video playback, dual surround sound speakers, a 2mp front facing camera and 8mp rear camera.
