This heat is killing me!
How many of us in the Philippines are actually exclaiming this as the extreme heat of the noonday sun bears down upon us all, everyday for the rest of summer.
Most of us are familiar with Kojiesan, the leading homegrown Filipino skincare brand. It has presented the ultimate questionnaire one must tick off to know if we are battling the humidity of the tropics the right way:
1. Have you ever gone out of the house without an SPF of at least 30?
2. Do you apply sun protection only on your face and neglect the other exposed parts of your body?
3.Do you forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours?
4. Do you apply less than a pea- sized amount of sunblock on your face?
Answering YES to any of these means we are committing serious violations against our skin. However, we are only human and it’s never too late to adopt sun protection as part of our summer lifestyle.
The Kojiesan Sun Patrol recommends the following measures:
1. Stay out of the sun during the middle of the day
when the sun’s rays are strongest. This is self-explanatory really, but you’d do well to avoid the harmful ultraviolet rays because they break down collagen and elastin, making the
skin rough and uneven. These rays also affect the melanocytes, which have something to do with the skin’s pigmentation. We sure don’t want to usher in those wrinkles and brown spots.
2. Wear protective clothing such as hats and umbrellas and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which protect against both UVA
and UVB rays, with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. Don’t forget to reapply every two hours for maximum protection.
