While former President Arroyo subscribed to holiday economics, President Noynoy believes in economizing on holidays. As such, people should expect less holidays than usual under his term.
This is the case with the “long holiday weekend” everyone was looking forward to starting August 21,2010 Ninoy Aquino Day until August 23 which was declared by the previous administration a special holiday under Republic Act 9492 which required certain holidays to be moved to the nearest Monday.
It seems Malacanang has finally found a way in the “holiday economics” law by saying that it also empowers the President to modify said holidays by law, order or proclamation.
The sudden directive from Malacanang to make August 23 a regular working day is expected to affect those who’ve made their travel plans and other activities in anticipation of the long weekend.
Future special holidays that will be affected by the August 23 precedent are the following:
Aug 30 – National Heroes Day
Nov 01 – All Saints Day (Monday)
Nov 29 – Bonifacio Day (Monday nearest November 30)
Dec 27 – Rizal Day (Monday nearest December 30)

WWWAAAHHH!!! Dapat di na muna nya binago kc my mga plans na kmi nun eh… kainis nmn eh…
I was just wondering why Pres. Noy would not follow Republic Aact 9492, it was specifically stated therein that Ninoy Aquino Day should be on a Monday nearesr August 21. That’s the law enacted by the legislative branch, he should have it repelled first before issuing a directive that August 23 is a regular working day.
Bad trip si Noynoy… dapat di agad sya na revoke ng holiday. paano naman kami na mga nag set na ng holiday plans!!!
