A Venetian Macau hotel experience

May 15, 2012 ·

A highlight of our recent trip to Macau was our stay at The Venetian. My twin daughters graduated from elementary school last March and this was my treat to them. I now fully understand why this casino complex cum resort & hotel is popular among Asian travellers (or travellers to Asia, for that matter). It's a world unto itself. There's really no need to go out once you're enclosed in its big, wide walls. It's got everything: from boutiques to kids' play zones to restaurants. On a peak season like summer, there are hordes of people checking in so it pays to come ... Continue Reading...

Bicol Express: the train, not the food

May 4, 2012 ·

I've been researching on the state of the Philippine National Railway trains because I want to use this mode of transport in going to Bicol. In popular parlance, the trains are known as the Bicol Express. I don't know if this differs from the train line called Mayon Limited. The trains are further classified into de luxe and ordinary. Understandably, the de luxe trains are more expensive and should I say, has better toilets or CR. Not bad really. I was expecting worse :) ... Continue Reading...

Passport renewal in Manila

March 19, 2012 ·

I haven't travelled abroad lately. Aside from being very busy, the reason is that my passport expires in less than six months which means that I'll not be able to pass through an immigration counter wherever I want to go (sigh). I really had to exert an effort to find time for my passport renewal. Having successfully finished the renewal process last week, I can now say it was no sweat and am excited to receive my new "biometric" passport in a couple of weeks! Here's how to renew your passport if you're a Filipino based in Manila: 1. Apply online via ... Continue Reading...

Tiaong: Coming Into Its Own – the book

February 11, 2012 ·

Ninety six kilometers south of Muntinlupa, Tiaong in Quezon Province is the quintessential "old hometown" that's been coming into its own and positioning itself among the many steadily modernizing towns in the country. It holds bittersweet memories among its locals who have left its hills and lakes and the watchful presence of Mt. Banahaw and Mt. Cristobal for the big cities here and abroad. Hence, the publication of the new coffeetable book called Tiaong: Coming Into Its Own is very timely. The book was launched recently at the Filipinas Heritage Library, ... Continue Reading...

P.F. Chang’s now in the Philippines! our first taste

January 20, 2012 ·

P.F. Chang's China Bistro, a popular US-based full-service chain, has opened its first branch in the Philippines & also its first in Asia. The resto is a sprawling two-storey affair at a new complex in Alabang Town Center called The Street. We daresay everything is impressive: from the structure to the modern interiors to the food. The restaurant layout speaks of the fact that this isn't just a place for eating but of drinking and hanging out as well. In a nutshell, here are a few good things about P.F. Chang's at ATC: unlimited rice (and brown rice!), a ... Continue Reading...
