During a recent trip, we were supposed to be in Davao City for less than 24 hours, if not for the cumbersome flight cancellation by Air Philippines. When you're in a faraway place for so short a time, there's a tendency to do everything. Some of the highlights: buy shawls in Aldevinco Shopping Center: check! sip durian coffee at Bluegre, eat sisig in Jack's Ridge... check! check! Our gracious host recommended one more, and that's to visit Chema's By The Sea, a picturesque resort in Samal Island. Who can say no? Never mind if we had to wake up at the unholy ... Kinabuhayan Cafe, Quezon: all-Filipino bed & breakfast
A visit to Kubli Springs is almost a given, if you're a guest or staying in Kinabuhayan Cafe. The latter is a Filipino-inspired bed & breakfast ( B&B) in the heart of Dolores, Quezon. It is highly recommended if you're trekking up the mystical Mount Banahaw or simple doing your Viaje del Sol tour. Primarily, this means sleeping on slotted bamboo floor amid the lush gardens and cool mountain air. The cafe-cum-B&B has a very homey atmosphere. We ... Continue Reading...

Pico de Loro@Hamilo Coast: still one more reason to settle in the Philippines
Someone like me who's been house-hunting can't help but toy with the idea of living in the great suburbs. Condos and other developments in the heart of Manila are definitely out as an option for me; it makes me cringe that building permits for new high-rises are being issued without regard for urban planning and the over-congestion already taking place. In all possibility, I will be buying a home in the outskirts because I still want my garden, a view of trees and a white picket fence. The suburbs may be a long drive if you work in Manila but it pays to fast-track ... Continue Reading...
World’s best islands, and we’re not on the list
us-usan sandbar Gadling has a report on the world's best islands based on " activities, beaches, culture/sites, lodging, restaurants and scenery." As our pessimistic mind expected, the Philippines was not on the list. Here's a list of those exotic-sounding getaways which made it: * Bali * Kauai * Maui * Cape Breton, Nova Scotia * Mount Desert, Maine * Tasmania * Hawaii * Galapagos * Santorini * Santo Stefano * Phuket, Thailand * Thatch Cay * Blue Lagoon * Grand Bogue Caye * ...
