The dish on Bush: Fahrenheit 9/11How ironic that I should see Fahrenheit 9/11 on the anniversary of 9/11 itself. It just so happened that my acquaintance, Erick, who's an author and a believer in conspiracy theories, lent me a DVD copy of this film which the whole of America is talking about. The documentary is moderately long but I don't have any regrets at all spending my Saturday night watching writer/producer/director Michael Moore's incendiary attacks on President Bush and his administration. The docu, which won the Palme d'Or (Best Picture) in the 2004 Cannes Film ... Continue Reading...
Of Imelda and Ninoy
After weeks of lying in my underwear drawer, I finally had the energy to watch last Sunday the VCD of Imelda: The Documentary which was given to me by The Madam's ever-loyal publicist, Sol Jose Vanzi.According to Sol, Mrs. Marcos is miffed about certain untruths in the docu which was megged by Ramona S. Diaz. Among these are shots of the Mendiola Massacre which was used in the movie ("it happened during the Cory Administration") and the how the director allegedly tricked the former First Lady into granting the interviews. Allegedly, Imelda spoke her mind because she ... Continue Reading...
As Hot as Tom Yam
Jan Dara massages Khun with ice cubes, originally uploaded by ajay.I watched this movie over the weekend for two reasons: I like foreign films (read: not from Hollywood) and because the blurb screamed Asia's Erotic Phenomenon. The synopsis: Jan Dara is set in the moody and turbulent Thailand of the 1930s. Jan Dara is a Thai young man whose earliest memories are that of his own father having sex with his childhood nanny. In this lopsided and obsessive world, he was cast out of his comfortable but troubled household at the age of 13 after his stepsister accused him of ... Continue Reading...
Songs on My Radio
Today, I feel like a refugee in no-man's land. We've transferred offices and it's a terrible feeling going to work on the first day of the week without your table and computer. It' a swell excuse for not being productive and I've been moving from one department to another while they put the finishing touches to our new "locale" which my unit calls "the gas chamber." Thankfully, our boss sympathizes: he has been working from his car.Devoid of any rational thoughts, let me share the songs that's now playing on my car CD:Here's To Love by Roberta Flackwith music by Sadao ... More of “King Arthur”
This tired, old lady seldom watches movies and so it was a welcome respite when Gigi and I decided to watch King Arthur after gulping down our strawberries & cream frapp at Starbucks. The legend behind King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table will always fascinate me. It is one of conquest, bravery, chivalry and the follies of the human heart. Readers will always find interesting the love angle between Queen Guinevere and Lancelot but the King and his Knights are also identified with one of history's greatest adventures, the quest for the Holy Grail (more on ...
