Who wouldn’t want to put London on their bucket list? It’s that beautiful city that’s the home of monarchy and famous landmarks like Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Covent Garden, Tower Bridge, Notting Hill and others. I was fortunate enough to visit the city a few times when younger and if there was a chance, I would go there in a heartbeat!
For now, we can only watch in envy as Costa Coffee Philippines crowned the winner of their #SingYourWayToLondon promo. And the lucky talented girl is 26-year old Jyl Orila who sang a riveting rendition of Adele’s Send My Love (To Your New Lover) in the informal grand finals held in Costa Coffee’s Robinsons Galleria branch.
“I wasn’t planning anything fancy for my birthday because you know, #adulting. Haha! Anyway, singing and coffee are definitely two things I cannot live without so thank you, @CostaCoffeePH for this once in a lifetime opportunity to #SingYourWayToLondon. You just turned my birthday from nada to tada!,” Jyl said in her Facebook post soon after winning. She will be going to London with her mother.
There were a total of five finalists for the contest doing covers for their fave British group or singer – Jyl, Pia Alfonso, Maqui Castelo, Inna Valera and Maki Santos….
The board of judges was composed of influencer David Guison, siblings Kiana and Paolo Valenciano and Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. general counsel, Atty. Gilbert Millado. The finalists were judged on their voice and presentation skills, audience response and adherence to the British theme.
#SingYourWayToLondon was inspired by the act of vlogger Vince Vandorpe who impressed a barista at the Costa Coffee London by singing a British classic at the counter while he ordered, thereby getting a free cup of coffee in the process.
Costa Coffee PH soon launched a contest calling on aspirants to send in a video of them singing a British song. And the prize was not a free cup of coffee, but an all-expense paid trip to London for two!
“Filipinos are known world over for their gift in music. And Costa’s Londonstyle is all about celebrating talents and craft. Hence, it was a perfect opportunity to do this and we were thrilled with the response,” said Cindy Poh, Costa Coffee’s Regional Marketing Manager for Southeast Asia and New Markets.
