We’ve settled in the South (Paranaque area) for barely a year, and it’s only now that am discovering culinary destinations in the neighborhood, and beyond. So far, it looks exciting.
Southern joints are not as written about as their counterparts in the North and center of Manila but I tell you, they’re equally good. Because of the distance, the scene here is not as crowded with people and there’s always the ‘homey’ feel of the places involved.
One such joint is Chi’s Brick Oven Kitchen, a nondescript resto along the length of Aguirre Avenue, inside BF Homes Paranaque. The only hassle going to BF is leaving your driver’s license with the guard if you are not a resident of the village, but I am told there are other entrances where you don’t have to. I immediately liked Chi’s welcoming interiors……..
My daughters like pizza and the house has 20 varieties of them, including the balut pizza (two whole balut or duck eggs for the topping) and the binagoongan (adobo bits with bagoong) pizza. Since it was our first visit, we stayed on the safe side and ordered their bestselling Chi’s Steak Pizza (P350) which is thin slices of beef on their special tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and special pizza crust. This was good!
Even more interesting is the one we had for dessert, the Chocoholic’s Pizza (P125 for six slices) with black and white chocolate topping, plus bits of chocolate chips to complete the line-up. A must-taste!
Other toppings for their dessert pizzas include Apple Crumble, Blueberry Cheesecake, Dulce de Leche, Choco Cherry Cheesecake, Nuttylicious and White Chocolate Strawberry Madness. All of them are reasonably priced, from P110 to P135.
Actually, I started my meal with French Onion Soup which had bread, caramelized onions and gooey, gooey cheese. This one didn’t disappoint! I thought of The Husband who would surely like this one 😉
In-demand with the house is the Pugon Lechon (P345) which is their own brick oven-style lechon kawali. However, my son, the keen fowl eater, would rather have the Pugon Chicken (P325). This was delicieux as well, tender and tasty with its own sweet soy sauce marinade. The resto can improve this by having more generous servings in the plate, knowing that the price of a whole lechon manok in the roadside stalls is only P200 or so. LOL.
More cheese in the Baked Spaghettini (P225). The kids liked this too. You will notice that all food served in this kitchen have a few things in common: cheese, tomato sauce and most dishes are brick oven-baked.
A glimpse of Chi’s Brick Oven which produces those divine pizza crusts and falling-off-to-the-bone tender meat dishes. Having sampled how food tastes good (and different) coming from the brick oven, you’d want one in your house yourself. Can’t wait to go back to this place to try more of their specialties!

The Pugon Lechon and Chocoholic pizza looks good enough to eat. Ginutom tuloy ako.
About BF Homes Paranaque, yeah, it’s a bummer when you have to leave your driver’s license at the gate. The only time they will let you in without your license is during Christmas season when people flock to Ruins, what the guards do is hold a shoebox asking for donation.
Aguirre Ave. boasts of interesting restos, kaya lang nakakapunta lang ako dyan when we visit my in-laws.
