Colon cancer has been in the news lately because of the late President Cory Aquino. The health buffs among us are suddenly reading up on the subject, especially how to prevent it. One of the crucial areas is proper nutrition. As much as possible, avoid red meat, especially those grilled, and focus on a plant-based diet. Timely enough, we got an invitation for a C-Lium High-Fiber cook-off event last week. I know some friends who take C-Lium Fibre and find it helpful in improving their digestion. I've tried it a few times before and gave up because I was put off by ... Continue Reading...
Breakfast joys: Jollibee pancake sandwich atbp.
I agree with what the health experts say: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Can't miss it! This is actually one of those times when I'd go fastfood. The uber-affordable prices in the leading chains has made dining out an affordable option. As parents or office workers, no longer are we so harassed to bring out those pans and kettles because we just have to buzz the Drive-Thru and it will be ready in two minutes. There was actually a time when I was late for work and waited through traffic while rushing to eat corned beef, egg and garlic rice with a ... Continue Reading...
Kusina Selera: Davao City’s best new restaurant
Travelling to Davao City is such a pain for me. I figure I can already go to either Hong Kong or Taipei with the one hour and forty five minutes it would take me to get there. But there was something during my last trip that made me excited to go to Davao again. And the reason is this cozy little new restaurant called Kusina Selera. In a city filled with seafood and grilled (ihaw-ihaw) places, the new resto comes like a breath of fresh air. It was opened only last May and seeks to specialize in Filipino fusion dishes. It forms part of a compound which includes a ... Continue Reading...
Chocolate overload in Cebu
After our dessert overload in Bacolod, it's now time for my little chocolate interlude in Cebu. It's not really intentional. Just so happened that when every time I asked the waitstaff about the house bestseller, they always pointed to chocolate cakes on their glass display counter. Don't ask me which among Bacolod and Cebu won in the dessert category. The only thing I can say for certain is that overloading on their sweets can make you (willingly) fat :D I have to admit that since Cebu is a bigger city, the food scene there is more exciting. In fact, I wanna go ... Continue Reading...
Chika-an sa Cebu and Visayan cuisine
On our last day in Cebu City, our group ate lunch at Chika-an sa Cebu before heading to the airport and buying some pasalubong. You know the part about Filipino restaurants which overdo on rattan furniture just to look local? This one didn't :D It had nice, contemporary interiors, just like Cafe Laguna. Diners also have a choice between staying indoors (for airconditioning) or outdoors (for smoking or just smelling the breeze). The part that I liked best was the menu. Mostly, it was the thrill of seeing familiar dishes from my childhood. I really don't get ... Continue Reading...
