Here's a tummy-filler we can't possibly resist. All-day breakfast place Flapjacks is offering these divine stack of pancakes at one peso each from April 13 to 17, to celebrate their first year anniversary. Conditions apply: A maximum of three pancakes per table Available only from 1 to 5 p.m. Still, it's good enough. Considering that Flapjacks is known for their filling but pricey offerings, one peso for a pancake..... is better than street food!!! I just bumped into this promotion actually. The server (who was on OJT) didn't even mention it to me :( So ... Continue Reading...
Manila’s dine-in seafood markets
With a mainly no-meat diet being imposed by Filipino Roman Catholics among themselves this past Holy Week, allow me to talk about seafood markets that have mushroomed in the city. When you're craving for cooked seafood in these parts, you can think of three major sources: the Filipino restos where you can feast on local specialties like guinataang kuhol (snail), the Chinese restos which have offerings like crispy shrimps or crab with sotanghon (vermicelli), and the open-air markets where you can pick your seafood fresh and have it cooked in the adjoining restaurant of ... Breakfast at Emerald Garden
Am so happy I found a new breakfast hang-out this week. It started when I started bringing my son to school at 7 a.m., two hours ahead of my scheduled work in the office. My sleepy, thirsty- for-coffee self was unknowingly led to Emerald Garden, one of the oldie but goodie restaurants on Roxas Boulevard, just across the US Embassy. Emerald Garden is A PAIR of restaurants that's a few steps away from each other. The first one offers dimsum, the other one does not. I've eaten here countless times before, because if you're based in Manila and don't know about it, ... Continue Reading...
Italianni’s “Small Price for a Big Lunch”
I like Italianni's. My all-time favorite is their pasta pomodoro in spaghettini and the complimentary ciabatta bread with balsamic vinegar dip. Prices are a bit on the high side but the servings are ample. This is one resto chain I don't go to everyday, but the few times I've been here, I haven't been disappointed. Once, I had just come from the graveyard shift and splurged on their Grand Platter at something like 500 pesos +++. It was the most I can do to assuage my sleeplessness and hungriness (errrr, hunger!) but it was worth it. Nothing like steak, sausage, ... Continue Reading...
Penang hawker food
What made my short stay in Penang so worth it is that I didn't taste anything that wasn't to my liking. Meaning, everything was delicious to my curious tastebuds. I didn't even eat in a restaurant labelled as "fine dining." Because to have an inkling of Penang cuisine, you'd have to be there on the streets, where the cooking mamas chop onions as fast as those chefs on TV in their little stalls and serve food on makeshift tables. Outsiders would have the impression that whipping up good hawker food was a way of life there, and the practice was passed on through ... Continue Reading...
