A taste of Spain in scenic Tagaytay

October 18, 2004 ·

The family has just spent a most fabulous weekend in Punta Fuego and Tagaytay City and will be posting the pictures tomorrow.Allow me to let you in on a secret: while New York is my most favorite city in the whole world, Tagaytay is my favorite city in the Philippines. Surely, there are no comparisons between the two but I am simply enamored by Tagaytay's dainty charm, its cool weather, enchanting greenery and of course, the majestic view of Taal Volcano. This is the reason why am paying an arm and a leg for a piece of land 20 minutes from this city and it is here ... Continue Reading...

Bacolod City: a food lover’s paradise

October 13, 2004 ·

Bacolod's famous chicken roasting in the open fireOriginally uploaded by annalyn. I was surprised to learn that two of my blog friends, Karen and Day come from Bacolod which is one of my favorite cities in the Philippines. I went there on an official assignment in November last year and until now I dream of going there again, if only to indulge in the ultimate food trip. When we mention the word Bacolod, what comes to mind is its most famous import, the super tasty chicken inasal marinated in a melange of ingredients and grilled slowly over charcoal fire. In the City of ... Continue Reading...

A fun family weekend in Pansol

October 11, 2004 ·

Nene's cozy roadside food stall in Pansol. On display are lechon manok, grilled hito, pork bbq and salted eggs. (Taken with a Nokia 6230)The whole clan motored to Pansol, Calamba City, Laguna last Saturday for my mom's advanced birthday celebration. The uninitiated may ask, "Where is Pansol?" Well, the place happens to be known as the Hot Spring Resort Capital of the Philippines. Being just 54 kilometers away from Manila,it is a popular place for rest and recreation. People also go here for health reasons. There's a septuagenarian I know who attributes his "eternal ... Continue Reading...

Cooking Project: Mang Cesar’s Salad & Lamb Kaldereta (from scrap)

October 8, 2004 ·

Cooking to me is a luxury these days - which is a pity since I am more passionate about food than religion or sex. Before JR's eyebrows rise a notch higher, let me try to explain: am no frigid babe but a chunk of steak is more accessible to me than human flesh. And while I may not be particular about the assortment of food I pile up on my buffet platter, experience has taught me to discriminate among the smorgasboard of men ripe for the picking, at the risk of suffering those terrible womanly woes. Now, I can't imagine myself being a vegetarian but I swear the picture ... When prime rib is better than sex

September 17, 2004 ·

My workload has consumed me this week and so it was such a relief when the presentation we were slaving on for days on end was finally delivered by our COO before congressmen and their staff at a hotel last night. It was interesting to see the country's legislators glued to the widescreen in the hotel ballroom as my dear agency appealed for our franchise extension. I feel good at being a part of a patriotic mission to secure the future of my 11,000 or so fellow employees. We need our jobs beyond 2008 and this country in dire straits also needs the billions in revenues ... Continue Reading...
