One thing I discovered on our day trip to Taal, Batangas: the historical place is also a foodie's destination. Even something as mundane as exploring the town market can be a delight. On that weekend when street vendors gathered in the market square, I had an excellent sampling of Batangueno home cooking - from barbecues to fish, seafood, veggies cooked in coconut milk and desserts. We had so much stuff to take home. When it comes to dining in a more formal setting, nothing beats Feliza Taverna y Cafe - undeniably the best resto right now in Taal. Manning the ... The 16th Grand Wine Experience
Did you know there's a Wine Museum in Manila? A bit far out of the way, but near EDSA, the Domestic Airport and Terminal 3. I've always relished going to this place because aside from being a Wine Museum (hotel and restaurant!), they serve very good Spanish food. Paella, lengua and of course tapas that go with one's favorite vino. I was recently invited to their Wine Wednesdays and there was certainly a lot of booze to be consumed for everyone (while observing Drink Moderately, of course!) Camus VSOP, Hennessy Bloggers had a choice among Camus VSOP, Hennessy XO, ... Continue Reading...
New chef de cuisine at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila unveils signature dishes
It is always a joy dining in Marco Polo Ortigas. Its distance from our place notwithstanding, I always look forward to civilized lunches here amid their high ceilings and sumptuous buffet that is one of the best values in Manila. We expect the quality to level up even further with the assumption of the young Giuseppe Rivoli as the hotel's new Chef De Cuisine. The 32-year old chef is a veteran of the Asian culinary scene. He was executive chef of the Trattoria Italia Restaurant group in Singapore and was also based for five years in Bali where he was at the ... Continue Reading...
Blast from the past: Jonas Pares in BGC
Since it's throwback Thursday, am happy to find food that's a blast from the past. Am talking of Jonas Pares in La Loma, Quezon City which was one of my favorite comfort food places when I was younger and much thinner. It's a relief that they've expanded to more locations and there's actually one in The Fort Strip, Bonifacio Global City. Jonas' specialty is the pares (P198) , a tasty dish that's unique to the Philippines and originated by the resto itself. The dish comes in three's actually - the clear soup, fried rice and beef simmered to tender portions. So ... Continue Reading...
Naxional South American Diner in BGC
Naxional South American Diner is another colorful, hip place that has opened in Bonifacio Global City or BGC. In fact, so hip that Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach had her birthday celebration here this week. On weekends, one can also easily spot those expats and good-looking Brazilian models who have made Manila their home. But that's not really the point because the resto transports one to vibrant South America from its interiors alone, dominated by brick walls and eye catching murals or paintings. And on that day in August when they opened Naxional to the ... Continue Reading...
