Sugar Factory American Brasserie is the latest foreign restaurant chain to set up shop in Manila and is now open at the ground level High Street Park of Shangri-La at the Fort in Bonifacio Global City (BGC). The resto is an import from Las Vegas and New York City where it has gained celebrity status because of its couture lollipops, sizzling candy-themed cocktails and good old comfort food. Everything's unique and is a must-try! In my hands: Sugar Factory's dulce de leche milkshake in a chocolate-covered mug adorned with popcorn, and the s'mores martini. ... Continue Reading...
Up close with Nigella Lawson for Contadina
The good thing with this craft called blogging is the chance to see world-famous celebrities up close. In 2013, I had the great fortune of shaking the hands of my peg in Sex & the City, Sarah Jessica Parker, for the opening of SM Aura. Now that it's 2016, we got the chance to be in the same room with celebrity food author Nigella Lawson, in an exclusive lunch as they would call it. That's because she's the endorser of Contadina, the Italian-inspired food line being brought to the Philippines for the first time by Del Monte. Nigella was a very lovely woman and to ... Flatiron in Uptown Place Mall BGC : New York-style comfort food
#yummyinmytummy is one hashtag am liking in Instagram lately. The word reminds me of one place I've tried dining in of late: Flatiron Restaurant at the newly-unveiled Uptown Place Mall in BGC. There's nothing complicated about the menu masterminded by Executive Chef Vicky Rose Pacheco of the 1771 Group of Restaurants. But it's yummy, down home comfort food...yes! Chefs know flat iron as that sturdy griddle made of cast iron from where one can sear or grill meat perfectly. Flatiron also happens to be the name of the iconic building in New York that's shaped ... Continue Reading...
Coffee making and other classes at the Maya Kitchen this August
Last Saturday, I did something really fruitful because I attended the Barista 101 (coffee making) class at the Maya Kitchen in Makati City. Being a coffee lover, I can't tell you enough how thrilled I was to learn how coffee is prepared in a commercial setting, from operating the machine to making various kinds of coffee drinks. Among these are Americano, latte, cappuccino and mocha. Our able teacher Eric taught us how to operate an espresso machine and how to froth milk for adding to your coffee concoction. But he did also teach us about how to come up with coffee ... Continue Reading...
Dining with the best views of Makati at Flame Restaurant, Discovery Primea
There was an invite from Ogilvy Manila and the gracious folks of the five-star hotel Discovery Primea to try their newly-opened Flame Restaurant for lunch. It was in conflict with another schedule and I finally made it to dinner. What can I say...the ambiance, the grandeur of the place and the views of the Makati skyline from the 16th floor simply took my breath away! I highly recommend a visit to Flame Restaurant if you're rekindling an old flame, discovering a new flame or simply igniting a "fire," lol. Daytime is recommended for business lunch and evenings ...
