I was excited to join the Avida Food Hunt because I've never really explored the eateries within the perimeter of the De La Salle University Campus. For this food tour, we even had our own bus and I, the UST alumnus, was seated beside Melody, an Atenista :) Chef JJ Yulo of Pinoy Eats World, purveyor of Manila's guerilla dinners, was our tour guide for the day. He told us that the Agno Food Court (reportedly owned by tycoon Danding Cojuangco) is one of the La Sallistas' popular pit stops. Nothing special about the place, but they have a well-curated line ... Continue Reading...
Hello Kitty at Nemoto Japanese restaurant at #AvidaFoodHunt
If you've been to Buendia in Pasay near the LRT station, you would have passed by Nemoto Japanese restaurant. This is what I've done several times in the past but I never even bothered to look inside. Apparently, this resto is one of the oldest in Manila...existing for the past 30 years or so. The friendly Japanese owner can even speak Tagalog fluently. And what's really cute is her extensive Hello Kitty collection which adorns certain spots of her resto. The food is cheap and good! Just look at the satisfied customers who are Japanese themselves ... Continue Reading...
In Hong Kong: Gold by #Harlan Goldstein
I can think of a few Hong Kong restos which will leave you breathless by their sheer ambiance and appearance. This one was no exception. Gold is one fine dining restaurant by HK's celebrity chef Harlan Goldstein. Along with Tosca and Gold's sister resto Strip House, it was awarded last year with one star by the prestigious Michelin Guide to Hong Kong and Macau. Gold interiors can sometimes appear tacky if handled to the extreme, but not this one. The glittering gold bar (pardon the pun) serves everything from heady cocktails to the finest vintage ... A baptismal party at Aristocrat Restaurant
A few Sundays ago, we were invited to a baptismal party at the legendary Aristocrat Restaurant in Roxas Boulevard. It was something new to me because I've only thought of Aristocrat as an eating place. An unfair impression, I know, as the resto is reasonably huge. It can very well host weddings, debuts, baptismals, birthdays , reunions and other special events that Filipinos are so fond of :) The Engracia Halls (name for the functions rooms) were already full when we arrived. It was festooned with all sorts of colorful balloons and decorations for the warm welcome to ... Continue Reading...
in Katipunan: Tokyo Bubble Tea + Honeybee Patisserie!
As a Southern belle, I really don't mind going to the far North if it means checking out a place I haven't tried. After the biking trip around UP campus, I cruised around Katipunan Avenue which is a whirl of cozy coffeeshops and restos, some of which can only be found here! (Hmmm, I obviously didn't hang out or study in UP, Ateneo or Miriam - being from the Dominican university in Sampaloc, haha). One traffic-less Sunday along C5 road found me entering this cool-looking building on Katipunan: Tokyo Bubble Tea which also shares the same spot as Honeybee Patisserie. ... Continue Reading...
