Mark your calendars as The Peninsula Manila showcases Australia's glorious cuisine starting Friday this week (January 25) until February 3, 2013. The hotel will be flying in talented master chefs Greg Doyle, Steven Kelly, Nic Waring and Adam Mathis who will present a special menu at The Pen's Old Manila and the buffet outlet Escolta. Places to eat in Sagada, Mountain Province
Will tell you more later about my milestone trip to Sagada which is one of those places in the Philippines on my bucket (fucket?) list :) I guess not many will believe me that I traveled so far to sample the cuisine, because everybody else goes to Sagada to go trekking, spelunking and to feel the cold, cold breeze. I did all those too, but the most enjoyable part for me was being ensconced in some remote coffeeshop just enjoying the good view (there was plenty!) Here's a sample, taken at Gaia Cafe and Crafts. Note the rice terraces in the background. I guess ... Continue Reading...
Wooden Spoon, Katipunan
In one of those rare times this southern belle found herself north of Manila - the campus-lined Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City, to be exact - I made sure to drop by Chef Sandy's Wooden Spoon which is one of the restos on my must-try list for 2012. As the photo shows, there's nothing fancy about this resto (although I like the carved spoon accents by the couch). The chef/owner was by the cash register on the day of our visit and the place was almost packed for lunch. Looking at the menu, I liked how Chef Sandy made notes in the first person to explain the dish ... Continue Reading...
Holiday recipes from chef Sandy Daza

I love Christmas coz of the decor we have to play with! Christmas is truly a big event in the Philippines, but from what I know New Year's here is an even bigger eating affair. We take out all round objects and the family table epitomizes the ... Continue Reading...
Sinigang forever!…with Knorr
I was also an OFW once before so I know the feeling. One of the first things we miss about home is the food. As we fly home and the plane touches down in the runway, the craving gets more intense.Images of adobo, sinigang, pinakbet and lechon fill the mind. Food company Knorr chose sinigang as the focal point of the red-carpet welcome they gave the country's returning OFWs recently. The “Knorr Sinigang’s Umuwi sa Sarap ng Sinigang” campaign added a flavorful twist to airport salubongs. Arriving OFWs were invited to a cozy dining area at the NAIA Terminal 3 where ...
