Yes I know, it's Valentine's soon and at least three of these things will be in demand: flowers, chocolates and expensive wine dinners. The new Bacon Bar by Machiavelli Chocolatier was something I simply had to have while passing through Essenses in Rustan's Makati recently. It seems that after combining all sorts of exotic things with chocolates, bacon is now the "it" ingredient. I can't complain... there is just something about the crispiness and saltiness of bacon that is irresistible when combined with our favorite sweet treat. The bacon bar was kinda pricey ... Coming home to Lola Maria Restaurant @ The Legend Villas
It has been years since I've eaten at the homey Lola Maria restaurant of The Legend Villas. It seems nothing much has changed in terms of the lunch crowd it draws. Its secret, all these years, is its good Filipino cooking and the reasonably-priced buffet which, at 450 pesos, is not bad for a hotel setting. Proximity has always been my problem in going to this place more often since we live in southern Metro Manila. But for this visit, I was glad to escape the horrendous EDSA traffic, ride the MRT train and alight at the Boni station. Solved the problem :D I ... Continue Reading...
Heavenly Chocolates… is it?
Hubby and I found ourselves in Quezon City today to have the car repaired somewhere in Roosevelt and somehow ended up in this nondescript place on Roces Avenue. Ending up in a cozy cafe like Heavenly Chocolates reminded me that Valentine's Day is coming before we know it. Wouldn't you like to receive the 'I Miss You' or ILY chocolate? How about the Kama Sutra chocolates? I did a bad job of photographing this, but go figure :D Give to impress with their huge OMG Chocolate Bar, P650 for 500 grams. The chocolates are locally made but use imported ... Continue Reading...
New York Pizza Palace launches in Makati City
"Thirty pounds lighter" ago, I made my first trip to New York City. I cherish this picture when the World Trade Center was still proudly standing. Just walking in the city's busy streets gives one an indescribable high. Until my feet got firmly rooted in this melting pot called Asia, I always thought that you made it if you conquered New York, New York! It's so geographically distant from where I am now but the good memories remain. Riding a limo from the airport, staying in Greenwich Village, hanging out, walking by Brooklyn Bridge..... here's another favorite ... Continue Reading...
Vietnamese cooking class @ Hanoi Cooking Centre
Here's what I consider the most enjoyable thing I did on this trip: take a Vietnamese cooking class at the Hanoi Cooking Centre for US$45. As they say, after you fall in love with the food, you gotta learn how to make 'em. I enrolled at the Hanoi Cooking Centre because of the good reviews this establishment got from travellers on Trip Advisor. The center's owner, Tracey Lister, is an Australian who chose to settle in Hanoi and establish an informal school, with a coffeeshop on the second floor. She is also the author of the coffeetable book Koto: A Culinary ... Continue Reading...
