It was our last day in Fukuoka. Our flight was still in the evening and we were figuring out what to do. My companion Shiela decided to explore Canal City (essentially a huge shopping mall) while I travelled by my lonesome on a JR train to see the giant Buddha of Nanzoin. Kido-Nanzoinmae is a sleepy town located about 20 minutes by train from Fukuoka. Most people overlook this in their itinerary when visiting the Kyushu islands of Japan (of which Fukuoka is a part). Am so glad I took the time because the surroundings of the Nanzoin temple were so refreshing and the ... Continue Reading...
Cherry blossom viewing experience 2016 in Japan
Last February, my friend Shiela and I booked our tickets to Fukuoka in Japan not knowing that our arrival date would also signal the flowering of the cherry blossoms in the area. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Being first-timers in Fukuoka, we loved the cool weather, the food, the laid-back vibe of the place and most of all, relishing the sakura experience. Hello spring! Our first stop was the beautiful Ohori Park which was fortunately near our hotel. It had this serene lake which reminded us of Baguio's Burnham Park. It was March 25 ... Continue Reading...
Review of Regal Airport Hotel & their HK Disneyland package
Staying NEAR Hong Kong Disneyland is one cost-friendly option that tourists can consider when visiting the theme park. That's right. You don't have to stay in Disneyland because the room only package was quite pricey the last time I looked. We have also stayed in Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel years back and it was time to consider a new experience. My internet surfing led me to the website of Regal Airport Hotel and I was glad to stumble upon their Disneyland room package which I thought was good value. For as low as HKD$2288 for a superior room, the package already ... Continue Reading...
Olango Island: a good day trip from Mactan, Cebu
A visit to Olango Island makes a good alternative if you're tired of the usual beach-hopping around Mactan and beyond. In fact, you can make this trip for a little under 500 pesos per person.Olango is quite known for being a bird watcher's paradise and for their marine sanctuary. The birds already left when we arrived close to noon but my daughter and I enjoyed our mini-trip just the same. I would call the Olango trip as my first real adventure with my 5 year old daughter Lucia. We rode three means of transport: tricycle, motorcycle and outrigger boat. In return, she ... Whale shark watching in Oslob … a surreal experience!
The long APEC holiday found me in the province of Cebu to avoid Manila's traffic, road closures and no-fly zones.I am not really excited about Cebu City since it reminds me so much of MNL with its malls and rush hour gridlocks. My game plan for this trip was to head to the islands and see the beach. Am so glad I did that...and so much more! 'More' in this case meant the part where I went swimming with the whale sharks in Oslob. Most people who have been there say it's a surreal experience. I wholeheartedly agree!!! The dictionary defines surreal as seemingly ... Continue Reading...
