Stay safe everyone! We had to spend most part of the day with no power as Typhoon Pedring (international code name: Nesat) lashed here in Metro Manila. My only consolation is that all members of the family stayed home today and did not have to brave the strong winds and wade through the flooded streets. There's no better time to stay indoors and keep dry. We had a brief respite at a nearby mall to have a pizza meal and enjoy the airconditioning. Am just thankful that our great suburb of Paranaque has been spared from the wrath of the floods that afflicts most areas ... Continue Reading...
Zubuchon Restaurant Cebu: the resto where pork rules
We were in Cebu a few weeks back and for somebody like me who's been here several times (I even speak the dialect), there's really not much to do except check out new spots or visit familiar hang-outs. This time, I had one item on the agenda: dine at Zubuchon restaurant since it's probably the only lechon brand popular among foodies that I haven't tasted.I found out that the easiest way to go here is through a taxi where a simple mention of "One Mango Mall" would suffice. It's in the same low-rise complex where Sunburst Fried Chicken and a Xiamen restaurant ... Continue Reading...
A taste of Shanghai at Jasmine Restaurant in New World Hotel Makati
I get sentimental when I think about Shanghai. There was something about the city that pulled me in all directions - the old, the new and the promise of what could be. Memories include sipping chocolate martini at the Godiva Cafe in Xin Tian Di which was owned by a Filipino, braving the chilly night weather and staring at the jawdropping skyscrapers of Pudong. One night, I was ensconced in a cafe trying not to mind a couple in front of me who were engaged in a public display of affection. I didn't mind them because there was a bigger challenge ahead of me: ... Continue Reading...
Prince Albert Rotisserie revisited: a taste of the best prime rib in Manila
'twas one unplanned five-star dinner we don't regret at all. Hubs and I were meeting that day in Glorietta and when my food radar was already signalling "Time to eat!" I thought of the coupon we purchased from Deal Grocer weeks back. Being a man, hubby loves his steak. The Deal Grocer offer was more than half the price off the signature U.S. Angus Prime Rib at Prince Albert in Hotel Intercontinental Makati, undoubtedly one of the best rotisseries in the city. See related post here. At only P895 net per person, it was really all worth it, especially as the ... Continue Reading...
Stuffed lechon @ Pepita’s Kitchen
Spanky had built up the excitement to our much-anticipated dinner at Pepita's Kitchen by way of sending an invite with blurred words about the food line-up that awaited us that night.Never did I think that the menu would consist of 15 courses, with four of the courses comprising of stuffed lechon cooked in different flavors or styles. Our lechon-eating fest now holds the record as my most sinful dinner this year (even though 2011 is clearly not over yet). Dedet Santos of Pepita's Kitchen is more of a food purveyor and enthusiast rather than a mainstream ... Continue Reading...
