Cellphone Mentality

March 21, 2005 ·

Nokia 6680 Originally uploaded by annalyn. Two weeks ago I was at the launching of Nokia's latest phone models at this five star hotel. I must say it was a superb experience munching on salmon & beef roulade while pretty ladies unveiled the phones one by one, as one might expect at a Sotheby's auction. If you haven't noticed, Nokia has been churning out phone models every quarter or so - which is indicative of its demand in the market, and the threat posed by equally-prolific brands like Samsung et al. As a result of that event, my dream phone at the moment is ... Continue Reading...

Moving Out, Moving In

March 19, 2005 ·

My Pasay City immersion program has ended and now the whole family is settled in our two-bedroom apartment in Malate, the heart of Manila's tourist district. What else can I say... while I loved my own bedroom with its own spacious bathroom in Pasay, the city itself had become unbearable for me with its filth and all those kids romping around in the streets. It was in Pasay that I was suddenly transformed into a rabid supporter of the population control program. I couldn't even make a decent walk in the evening because there were all these kids -either dirty or naked - ... Continue Reading...

My New Career: Blog Columnist

March 15, 2005 ·

Like any newbie who has blogged for less than a year or so, I don't pretend to be the most knowledgeable person in web publishing. As the saying goes in Tagalog: "Marami pa akong kakaining bigas." But that hasn't stopped me from being engrossed with what I consider to be one of the most amazing revolutions ever: the phenomenal growth of our blogosphere. This led me to propose to an editor of my former newspaper: "how about a section on blogs and Filipino bloggers?" The idea was just as soon approved and yesterday, my maiden article came out. I am happy yet sad that all ... Continue Reading...

It’s a laugh out there

March 11, 2005 ·

My fellow bloggers and I have this email group in Google where we exchange thoughts on a sundry of topics - from HTML codes to what we had for breakfast to how somebody looked like 15 years ago. Bouncing in between are green jokes, what the latest chismis are in the blogosphere and funny photos brilliantly worked up by Polo and the irrepressible Batjay, showing himself in a variety of poses. And did I tell you that I really find Gmail amazing? I think we are able to maximize the capabilities of this service because we don't just send emails, we have turned it into a ... Look Ma, I can (almost) dive

March 9, 2005 ·

dive2Originally uploaded by annalyn. If I were to make up an imaginary list of 25 Things To Do Before I Die, diving is definitely one of them. And so I was glad when I was able to do it over the weekend, or take an introductory course at least, at the Punta Fuego infinity pool. Well, what can I say...it was one of the most fun things I did in recent times. The only thing was that I was the most difficult student among our group of three. My friend Bianca said she almost died laughing from all my blunders, especially when I wore my diving suit on the wrong side and ... Continue Reading...
