It has been a day of nonstop rains in Manila, and elsewhere. I’ve stayed in bed all morning, with this trusty Mac on my lap – all the while staying glued to the reports of my friends on Plurk and Twitter. Something about brownouts, cancelled flights, floods reaching houses, people moving furniture, people wading in chest-deep waters, high way billboards being stripped down, and cars almost submerged in the floods. A bad day to be out, really. It’s that bad, and somebody even had to mention taking out Noah’s Ark.
Am just glad our little bungalow has been spared from nature’s fury. This is one of those times when we’re thankful to have a garage for the old car, and a cozy roof over our heads. I dread it when the post-storm accounting comes and out comes reports of our brethren drowning or are rendered homeless because they live near dikes, riverbanks, esteros, coastal areas etc. Hope not 🙁
It’s the monsoon season in the Philippines, and am just thankful Ondoy chose to lash out its strength on a Saturday, and some office workers like us are spared the pain of commuting to and from work, most likely getting stranded in the process. The last worse typhoon etched in my family’s memory was Milenyo which scared us to death with the fury of its winds, and the blackouts after. We had to stay in a hotel for the next few days.
In the meantime, here’s the latest weather forecast:
“Ondoy” packed maximum winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph, and was moving west-northwest at 19 kph.
It was expected to be 230 km west-northwest of Iba, Zambales by Sunday morning as it continues to move into the South China Sea. – via gmanews.tv
Central Luzon and the provinces of Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Rizal, Quezon and Camarines Norte will experience stormy weather while the rest of Luzon will have rains and gusty winds with moderate to rough seas. Visayas will have Monsoon Rains while Mindanao will be cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Southwest will prevail over Visayas and Mindanao and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. – PAGASA weather forecast

My storm ondoy experience was so lucky, I nearly park my car inside the basemen of the building when the engine stop and wont start. I end up parking at the front side of the building worrying about the flood will soak my engine. But blessing instead that after a few minutes a flood rush inside the basement and all the cars inside scramble and fill with flood up to the sealing.

Re: Marikina Flood (typhoon Undoy) 26 Sept. 2009,
death toll in Provident Village alone:
Official( according to MCF)= 16 dead
unofficial = 58 dead
A SENATE INVESTIGATION IS IN ORDER!!!
The recent flood is the very unfortunate result of both natural and man made calamities. The release of excess dam waters was done without thinking of the consequences. it is both a criminal and insane act.
“The Angat Lake created by the Angat dam is the main potable water supply source of the Metro Manila Area. However this water when in over abundance, due to very heavy rainfall, is also the cause of widespread flooding, deaths, and accompanying misery affecting not only the provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga but also the Metro Manila Area. This happens everytime the dam water reaches its maximum height and the spilled water races down through the gullies and streams to the east of the dam and this rampaging water joins the water of the Marikina river system multiplying the floodwater volume of the Marikina River system thereby causing rapid increase in the volume of floodwater in the Marikina Valley. This happens everytime very heavy rains overfills the Angat water reservoir. The solution to this problem is the construction of water diversion/power generation tunnels to divert excess water towards the east emptying into the Pacific Ocean. It will also generate power. It is not enough that the excess water is emptied into the heavily populated areas, i.e, Bulacan, Pampanga area,Marikina Valley, as it definitely will cause multiple death and destruction downstream. Diverting the excess water to the east will save so many lives as the east side is relatively sparsely populated and at the same time generate power for electricity. The Government of the Republic of the Philippines must consider this as a permanent solution to the recurring problem of flooding in the central Luzon area and Metro Manila.”
I’m sorry for encroaching into your space but I do not know where to start. Please think about the opinion I expressed above. You may freely share this thought with your friends, hoping that someday, the people criminally responsible for the release of Angat dam water, on the morning of 26 September 2009,shall face the bar of justice. An in-depth study and analysis of google maps and wikimapia maps will prove my point. Better still, a short helicopter trip tracing the path of the floodwaters will verify this matter. The evidence left by the rampaging flood water will trace it back to its source and is difficult, impossible to erase.

ONDOY is just another regular typhoon that passes by every year in the Philippines…
THE DISASTER HAPPEN LAST SEPT. 26 2009 WAS NOT NATURAL DISASTER… IT IS A MAN MADE DISASTER!!!
indeed there was a massive rain fall and strong wind… but that is normal when there is a typhoon…
now… why was the release of water on ANGAT DAM done during the typhoon… and not before it hits the land?
“Well this is my opinion”
ELECTION is coming up on 2010… The CALAMITY FUND will be a big help for the ASS-HOLE candidate!
why were the people operating ANGAT DAM were not charge for their criminal act???
who ever the person behind this… Is a criminal, murderer, thief!!!
I Hope his/her greediness satisfy him/her this time!
Feel free to comment on my opinion… ANYWAY…
I have LOST all material thing except the lives of my family.
Can’t do anything since we know not who stab us from our back!
