The runup to Christmas went by in a blur. The traffic jams around Manila and the rush to buy gifts are the very things I dread about the season. But somehow I managed to dodge the pressure that goes with all these and was even excited to buy gifts for everybody. Overall, it's been a good year for the family and it would just be selfish not to share and remember people, even with little things. Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com. I remember being pregnant with our daughter Lucia last year and see how so much of our life has changed with her arrival. ... Continue Reading...

New York Pizza Palace launches in Makati City
"Thirty pounds lighter" ago, I made my first trip to New York City. I cherish this picture when the World Trade Center was still proudly standing. Just walking in the city's busy streets gives one an indescribable high. Until my feet got firmly rooted in this melting pot called Asia, I always thought that you made it if you conquered New York, New York! It's so geographically distant from where I am now but the good memories remain. Riding a limo from the airport, staying in Greenwich Village, hanging out, walking by Brooklyn Bridge..... here's another favorite ... Continue Reading...
Vietnamese cooking class @ Hanoi Cooking Centre
Here's what I consider the most enjoyable thing I did on this trip: take a Vietnamese cooking class at the Hanoi Cooking Centre for US$45. As they say, after you fall in love with the food, you gotta learn how to make 'em. I enrolled at the Hanoi Cooking Centre because of the good reviews this establishment got from travellers on Trip Advisor. The center's owner, Tracey Lister, is an Australian who chose to settle in Hanoi and establish an informal school, with a coffeeshop on the second floor. She is also the author of the coffeetable book Koto: A Culinary ... Continue Reading...
Halong Bay, Vietnam
Seeing Ha Long Bay was one of the reasons why we flew all the way to Hanoi. The photographs of those boats hogging the bay's stunning landscape has always haunted me, and it was a dream come true to finally see it! It was cold and it was foggy. Still, the sight of those limestone isles appearing one after the other as we travelled through water in an old-fashioned boat took my breath away. God's masterpiece at work! The bay has about 1,960 limestone karsts and isles that are followed only by Phi Phi island in Thailand and Guilin, China in terms of numbers. The ... Continue Reading...
PAL flies to India soon?
Their labor row notwithstanding, I hear it from sources that our very own flag carrier, Philippine Airlines, is slated to fly to India starting next year. This should be good news to us since India is one of those must-go countries in terms of scenery, culture and history. We just hope the fare is affordable, as it seems some PAL tickets can be more expensive than the competition on some international flights. Anyway, for our trip to Vietnam, we booked Philippine Airlines. The PAL planes going in and out of Manila to Ho Chi Minh were quite small - the A320-200. But ... Continue Reading...
