Hanaichi Japanese restaurant @ Fort Bonifacio

November 15, 2011 ·

Unlike other districts in Manila like Makati or Malate, there aren't too many Japanese restaurants yet in the Bonifacio Global City. That's why we happily tried Hanaichi at this condotel called The Luxe Residences on 28th street corner 4th Avenue. I felt something familiar about the place the first time I stepped there. And then I remembered that this was where the short-lived Spasso Italian Wine & Tapas Bar used to be. The sight of young Japanese women dining on the night of our visit warmed me up to the place. It establishes trust when I know, for ... Continue Reading...

Achiote Taqueria, Rockwell : Mexican food in Manila

November 14, 2011 ·

Achiote Taqueria by Chef Robby Goco of Cyma Restaurant fame has opened in Rockwell Powerplant Mall beside Mamou Too! Chef Robby was with Ristras during its heyday until he bailed out. With this new food stop, his concept is to serve hefty Mexican fare with healthy ingredients. For example, the organic vegetables & naturally raised pork are sourced from Costales Nature Farm, free range chicken from Magnolia and kitayama Wagyu beef from Bukidnon. The resto is homey enough and there's an open kitchen for diners to see what's going on. Be warned though that the place is ... Continue Reading...

Pacquiao wins vs Marquez for the 3rd time

November 13, 2011 ·

Surprisingly, Filipinos have mixed feelings about Manny Pacquiao's win against Juan Manuel Marquez in their historic Nov. 12 bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It wasn't a knockout but Pacquiao was proclaimed the WBO welterweight champion based on judges' decision. Scores were at 114-114, 115-113 and 116-112, in favor of Pacquiao. In reality, some of my Facebook buddies thought Marquez played the better game, except for Round 12 where he appeared to have slowed down. Our friend Spanky called it an unconvincing win while others branded it "lutong Macau." Some ... Continue Reading...

Cherry Mobile & affordable Android phones

November 11, 2011 ·

I've been getting a lot of searches in this blog for cheap Android phones which only means that there's high demand for such products. In the Philippines, one of the companies that offer really affordable handsets is Cherry Mobile. I was using a raffle-won Cherry Mobile Nova running on Android version 2.2 for a long time and it never gave up on me. So yes, this brand must be good enough for when you don't want to put a hole in your pocket by settling for more expensive labels. I was at Annabel's Restaurant in Tomas Morato when Cherry Mobile launched their latest ... Continue Reading...

World Osteoporosis Day with Anlene

November 11, 2011 ·

Note to self: drink more milk than coffee, especially at this stage in life when good ol' me is at risk for osteoporosis. Here's the official literature: "Osteoporosis occurs when the bone mass decreases quickly more than the body can replace it, leading to a net loss of bone strength. As a result, bones become brittle that even a slight bump can lead to painful fractures. It affects all bones in the body but fractures occur mostly in the spine, hips, and wrist. The alarming part is that, according to statistics, 20% of those who suffer hip fracture die within six ... Continue Reading...
