Things that didn’t make it on the news

January 14, 2005 ·

I welcome any excuse to get away from the computer for a while and so it was a blessing when me and the bosses attended the Manila Overseas Press Club Gala Night in the august halls of Malacanang last Wednesday. What transpired during this event made it on the news the next day but still, it's worthwhile to go for the chance to see the much-maligned President up close, hobnob with the so-called "power personalities" and then witness the absolute look of boredom on everyone's face because dinner has not been served at 9 p.m.To begin with, it's hard going to the Palace ... Text messages which make me feel like…Ate Mel

January 6, 2005 ·

I feel surreal today. To the outside world, I am the harassed single mom who can't be bothered with anything as I am perceived to be so busy already. But there are exceptions to the rule such as when friends text me their major and not-so-major problems, with the hope that I can help them.I do appreciate this as it makes me more human (not the can't-be-bothered superwoman.) But at the same time I feel frstrated that I can only do so much as provide moral/psychological support. This makes me wish that I am remotely related to Bill Gates or at the very least, Ate ... But I couldn't resist not logging on the Net for a day to check my email and my blog.I am answering these posts from my Friendster Bulletin Board for you guys to know me better (thanks Abby). Come to think of it, it's always nice to ... Continue Reading...

What’s in my beauty kit

November 12, 2004 ·

Body Shop sesame body butterOriginally uploaded by annalyn. The fact that I face the computer all day and read books as thick as the Rosetta Stone doesn't mean I take my beauty rituals for granted. However, compared to my other friends who take hourrrs in the bath and another decade dressing up or putting on make-up, am basically a fuss-free, low-maintenance girl. Fixing up for me is part of being presentable and maintaining good hygiene. Filipinos, I think, are more cultured than other races in this aspect. As far as I know, Europeans skip their daily bath and are ... Continue Reading...

Austerity message hits home

September 18, 2004 ·

The buzzword among state employees now is Administrative Order 103 "directing the continued adoption of austerity measures in government." This effectively cuts all foreign and local travels, unless urgent; paid media advertisements; the conduct of trainings, seminars, celebrations and cultural or sports activities; as well as the grant of all donations, contributions, and gifts. Likewise, a reduction in the consumption of fuel, water, office supplies and electricity has been decreed, and the grant of new or additional benefits to full-time officials and employees has ...
