Sentro 1771 ( with branches in Serendra and Greenbelt) is my Caucasian hubby's favorite Filipino resto, and his favorite dish is their sinigang na corned beef. He never fails to eat this heaping bowl with gusto, a dish which was undoubtedly made famous by the restaurant. It was a joy to know that Sentro offers breakfast too. Since the place appears to take pride in their own corned beef, made from scratch, ordering the ginisang corned beef was a cinch. What I like about this home-cooked version: you somehow feel better that's it's not from the can, with less ... Continue Reading...
BergBlick Deutsches Restaurant: our best food in Pagudpud
Perhaps, interracial marriages aren't a bad thing. Especially when a hotel executive chef falls in love with a Filipina, decides to settle here and put up a restaurant ... never mind if it's in a remote place. It can only be good for local cuisine! :D Such is the story of the BergBlick Restaurant in faraway Pagudpud... a venture of the husband and wife team of Detlev and Tess Cotte. They met and fell in love while working at a luxury resort in Maldives and soon relished the idea of living in the Philippines. In one of their travels, Detlev found his perfect spot ... Pastry recipes a la California milk & meeting a CIA chef
Studying at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) is a major dream for people interested in food and a chef's career. That's why it was hard to pass up a recent invite featuring Chef Robert Jorin, team leader of CIA's Baking & Pastry Arts Certificate Program. I figured that even if I am not able to go to CIA itself, at least I can hear one of their baking instructors speak, and have first-hand knowledge of CIA-tested recipes. Chef Jorin flew into town as a guest of the California Milk Advisory Board whose products are gaining headway in the Philippines ... Continue Reading...
Zapata’s: great Mexican resto in Angeles City, Pampanga
It has been four years since I last visited Zapata's, the great Mexican resto just outside the perimeter gate of the Clark Special Economic Zone in Angeles City, Pampanga. Going to Clark usually means "food trip!" and during this weekend holiday, I showed the family usual haunts like the VFW Post 2845 and Holiday Inn (their Mequeni Cafe had a great breakfast buffet, btw). I especially warned the hubby to save some room for Zapata's, especially as he loves his Mexican food. The interiors are very colorful and remains one of my favorites. There is always something ... Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao in Greenhills for hubby’s birthday
I haven't been to Greenhills in ages. Hubby wanted to go here because he received tips from online folks that this is the place to go to in Manila for Xbox repair. You see, it's not only a haven for clothes and accessories but also the latest in mobile phones and electronics equipment. I think they sold the iPhone 4 here, even before it was offered by Globe to its subscribers. Greenhills also equals food. The whole area is peppered with restaurants boasting of good food to try. And at present, one resto packs them in - Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao which is an ... Continue Reading...
