    February 28, 2010 by ajay

    Sony ericsson fifa

Parents with sports-minded kids aged 10-16 years old: here’s one worthwhile thing to do this summer. Create and upload a video answering, “Why I deserve to win the Sony Ericsson Search for the FIFA World Cup™ flag bearer.” The winner will get to proudly carry a FIFA flag live on the pitch in South Africa and get to travel with his/her parent or guardian to the said country, complete with plane fare, pocket money and hotel accommodations.

To qualify, contestants must creatively answer the question in a 30-60 second video through a song, dance or any kind of performance. Interested candidates can submit as many entries as they want. Five finalists will each win the Sony Ericsson Kita, the gesture gaming phone wonder with 5-megapixel camera, photo geo-tagging, Net access, high quality media player and stereo speakers.

  2. Pregnancy massage at Sujivana Spa

    February 24, 2010 by ajay

Going to spas and getting a massage was the one precious thing I had to give up for the past six months that I’ve been pregnant. It was for the simple reason that none of the regular therapists wanted to touch me. Most of them thought that I was in such a delicate stage to be kneaded and rubbed thoughtfully. One time, I even tried to Google “pregnancy massage in the Philippines” just to know my chances, and a few names came up. I began to understand that this type of massage needs some type of training on those who performed it.

It was probably heaven-sent that we went on a tour of the Westgate Alabang. Here I chanced upon Sujivana Spa which takes pride in their Mama Mia (prenatal) massage. I wasted no time in booking myself for a session. Sujivana Spa is in a complex in Westgate called Serenity Place which I truly found to be an oasis because here, I can have my favorite coffee drink (now limited to only one per day) at BonaCoffee, shop for delightful Indian jewelry at Bohemian Nation Trading Co. and have a pampering pedicure at the Sujivana Salon.

  3. Grendha shoes and slip-ons to love at Bambu store, Glorietta

    February 20, 2010 by ajay

    Bambu Glorietta

We attended the opening of the new Bambu store in Glorietta 4 last week, and we thought having four young girls cut the ceremonial ribbon was such a cute idea. (they were nieces/relatives of Bambu owner Patxi Elizalde)

Bambu is a one-stop shop when you’re looking for quality, fashionable Brazilian footwear, notably flip-flops which you can strut around the beach. Very apt since summer’s almost here! The house carries such noted brands as Ipanema, Ipanema GB (which stands for supermodel Gisele Bundchen), Grendha and Rider sandals for men.

They’ve also added Colombian swimwear into the mix. It goes by the name of the brand OndadeMar and doesn’t only include bikinis but also sarongs, tunics and the like. I even saw shell-studded hats.

I’ve learned to love these super-comfy Brazilian flip-flops and wasted no time in buying two pairs of Grendha slip-ons for my nine year-old twins when I saw that the store had a quite adorable kids’ line. Even pretty shoes for babies! :P

Was I glad I got the right size! Grenda kiddie slip-ons at P1295 each.

  4. The look of love, the look of Love Etc… by The Body Shop

    February 17, 2010 by ajay

God knows there’s no other best time to feel BLAH than when you’re pregnant. No salon agrees to color my hair (even though the grays are showing) and spas won’t even give me my regular massage by reason of my swollen belly. My digitally-permed tresses have grown out and I can’t have them straightened at this stage. Looks like everything has to wait until delivery!

That’s why I felt quite elated when publicist Char of Stratworks chose to invite me for a beauty event. It was the launch of the new Love Etc… line by The Body Shop in the runup to Valentine’s Day. I said yes without blinking for the main reason that hubby and I patronize The Body Shop products. In fact, one of my first gifts to him (when we were not yet married) was a Body Shop man’s scent he likes. The invite even looked more alluring because there was a promise of free fortune-telling, photobooth, and of course a make-up session, among other fun activities.

    Here’s Char and I, post-primping…. :D

    The Body Shop event

During the event, I discovered the brand’s new Love Gloss (P650) which is lipsmackingly good. It is certainly one of my favorite beauty products at the moment. A lip gloss guaranteed to give extra pucker and sparkle to your lips. It even comes with a unique applicator that is almost shaped like a heart.

  5. Trying out KFC, a.k.a Korean fried chicken …

    February 16, 2010 by ajay

I have to blame the office folks for introducing me to the pleasures of KFC… no, not The KFC but Korean fried chicken. It is fried chicken I’ve tasted like no other, mostly because this doesn’t use ketchup or gravy as an accompaniment. Trying it with sweet pickled radish is love. :D

Another good reason to love this chicken. It’s perfectly cooked, and doesn’t have the oily taste.

  6. The French Corner, Alabang

    February 16, 2010 by ajay

Alabang is certainly far enough to go for fine dining if you don’t live there. But eating at The French Corner has been one of my great gastronomic experiences lately that I wouldn’t hesitate to dine here again.

    The French Corner, Alabang

This resto prides itself of its “Creative Continental cuisine” crafted by noted gourmet chef Billy King. It is one of the mainstays in the cozy complex called the Westgate Center. The prices aren’t to be scoffed at, and this is one of the places to go to when you want to impress your date – most especially because of the great service. It certainly looked like the waitstaff was trained on this aspect.

Then of course, there’s the food. Here’s what we ate at The French Corner:

    P1000756

Salad panache with grilled prawn, vegetable, pomelo, grapes in creamy balsamic and sesame dressing. A salad to love, even for someone like me who has to be forced to eat a salad. It’s all in the dressing.

  7. Lolo Dad’s and other great places to have a Valentine’s Day dinner date in Manila

    February 13, 2010 by ajay

I’ve been working in the City of Manila for the longest time. Even though the place is “decaying” due to the rise of more contemporary restaurant strips in The Fort, Makati and beyond, some good ol’ places still remain. Here are some suggestions on where to take your loved one for a Valentine’s Day date in Manila:

    1. Restaurant Le Bellevue on the 27th floor of the Manila Diamond Hotel is a favorite for viewing the bright lights of the bay-enclosed city, while savoring French cuisine

    2. Cosa Nostra on Adriatico St. Malate is the cutest little spot in Manila. A small hang-out with five or six tables. Be sure to talk in whispers while you’re munching on your salad and pasta

    3. I’d also go to another Malate mainstay, Cafe Adriatico, for a nightcap over coffee and Claude’s Dream, their divine-tasting buko pandan dessert

    4. White Moon Bar, a new open air hangout at the Manila Ocean Park looks cozy enough. The perfect spot for enjoying the bay breeze and Manila’s famous sunset while lounging in their comfy sofas

    5. Harbor View, another popular open-air restaurant with mainly Filipino cuisine on the menu

    6. Harbour Square at the CCP Complex. I think of this place as the new Luneta – albeit a small version – where you can HHWW (hold hands while walking) amid a view of the buildings in Roxas Boulevard and the ships sailing Manila Bay :D

    7. Don’t count out the Walled City of Intramuros too, and having dinner in the legendary Ilustrado Restaurant. I love their pastries!

    8. Summer’s safe enough to try a Manila Bay dinner cruise. You can choose to just sail, or sail while partaking of a buffet for the price of P495. Another alternative is cruising in a 70-foot yacht by Realship Corp amid food, wine and piano music. All of the boats dock in the CCP Complex

    9. And then there’s Lolo Dad’s.

Hubby and I had dinner here during our wedding anniversary recently. He liked very much the food at Lolo Dad’s Brasserie in 6750 Ayala Avenue, Makati and so I wasted no time in telling him that they also have a restaurant in Manila.

  8. Sony Vaio and its new line of laptops for Spring 2010

    February 10, 2010 by ajay

This is a rather delayed post on the Sony Vaio launch event we attended last week to welcome their Spring 2010 collection of new laptops. Some revelations: this brand remains posh, with its high-end Vaio Z model priced at Php 150,000 (more expensive than the Mac!). We figured it is worth it since the lean machine runs on Intel Core i5 processor.

However, did you know that they have the Vaio W that’s priced at Php 29K as well? That’s more like it in terms of affordability, considering the low, low prices of netbooks these days. The Vaio W (pictured below) comes free with a carrying case, instead of a carton, when you purchase. This is also the most eco-friendly line-up in the bunch since some parts, like the top panel and bottom housing, are made from recycled materials.

  9. Deco’s original La Paz batchoy comes to Manila

    February 8, 2010 by ajay

Deco’s is the inventor of the famous La Paz batchoy – an Ilonggo comfort food consisting of noodles in a hot bowl of soup, topped with pork meat, liver and sinful bits of chicharon. I was certainly glad to learn that I don’t have to fly as far as Iloilo to partake of this mouthwatering treat because there’s now a Deco’s branch right outside the Magallanes MRT station in Makati. Here, special batchoy can be had for as little as P67 and can be paired with the so-called pre-war pan de sal for P3.50 or the Manapla puto @ P6.50.

  10. Westgate Center Alabang food tour : eight restaurants in eight hours

    February 5, 2010 by ajay

    Don Alba Spanish restaurant

Alabang has become nearer to us ever since the family moved south of Manila. And in this district, I discovered a charming place which endeared me the first time I went there. It’s called the Westgate Center in in Filinvest Corporate City (FiliCity), an all-in-one complex to shop, dine, play with the kids, indulge in beauty routines or spend on one’s favorite hobbies like bikes and cars.

The Kanin Club was the first restaurant I discovered and where I savored my first taste of crispy dinuguan. I remember how I promised to myself then that we’ll come back to try all the restaurants there and have a date with hubby (who was then abroad). I simply loved how it was away from all the hustle and bustle of Manila, with pretty landscaping, the shelter of trees and of course, the cozy restaurants with their well-planned assortment of cuisines.

My prayers must have been answered because the people behind Westgate (and their publicist) invited me for a media tour of the food establishments in the area. The itinerary appealed to me because it included a tasting in restaurants I haven’t been to before. So yeah, that’s how we all ended up eating in eight restos in eight hours or so, with only a few breaks in between. If there’s such a thing as shop till you drop, this was a case of eat till you burp, and more. What an experience!
