Now that it's Christmas, my 3 1/2 year old toddler seems to find a reason to ask for toys everyday. She doesn't yet know what a big deal Xmas is but toys are everywhere every time we go to the mall. Unfortunately, my killjoy mom instincts are finely tuned and I don't encourage her when she says "Lalaloopzy! .... Barbie!" or else my wallet will go pfft. When the urge to point at every toy happens, I divert her attention. She's happy enough to play with a real dog, for instance... But food? Food is another matter. We find excuse to gorge and spoil ourselves with ... Continue Reading...
Nutcracker Xmas Encore at Bizu!
Nothing impresses at the Christmas table than Bizu Patisserie's bestselling specialties. Their 2013 collection is not only eyecatching but also tasteful and spells classy all around. Choose between an 18-inch tall croquembouche with 130 cream puffs or a 12- inch tall croquembouche with 60 cream puffs. The Chestnut Cake, on the other hand, is a combination of chestnut cremeaux, moist speculoos cake and ... Continue Reading...
Harina Artisan Bakery Cafe, White Plains
That Saturday had me driving from Parañaque to Quezon City but thankfully there was no traffic on EDSA. The lengths I travel to eat in a new place! Harina Artisan Bakery Cafe used to be Monsee's but I never even got to try Monsee's. Since my whole family loves bread, I like the whole Harina idea of baking bread in a traditional way, lovingly handrolled and using no chemical additives. Anyway, good that I was famished when I arrived at the place. This pretty Breakfast Tart (P290) immediately enticed me at the table- .... it's a rectangular slab of puff ... Continue Reading...
An Awesome Secret Foodies Tour in Tuscany at McKinley Hill
Let it be put on record that am mighty proud of the restaurant scene in Manila. It takes a native to see the diversity of offerings, the variety of cuisines and the excellence of the food available in town now. I love learning how young Filipinos, after being schooled in the great culinary traditions of New York, Vancouver, Sydney or wherever, are coming home to set up shop and pay it forward.Indeed, no longer shall we be called a Third World country if only for this! In the meantime, new fabulous places in town are sprouting up like the latest strip of Megaworld ... Continue Reading...
Noche Buena recipes from Chef Aracama
As you can see, there have been no food and resto features for a long time. Am not about to blame Typhoon Yolanda, but some friends were really serious when they urged netizens (like me) not to post food photos while hunger was prevalent in Tacloban & neighboring areas. So be it! Anyway, this is not about food for the sake of eating. Will be sharing some recipes which you can use for the family's all-important gathering for either the Noche Buena (during Christmas Eve) or Media Noche (during New Year's Eve) this year. It is only three days before December after ... Continue Reading...
