Last October, I wrote about the opening of H&M in Manila after business sources reported that they have applied with the Board of Investments. With news this week saying that the first H&M store will be located in SM Megamall, presumptions were rife that the world's second largest apparel retailer has teamed up with the SM Group which already holds the Philippine franchise to big brands like Uniqlo and Forever21. However, this is not the case as H&M is entering the Philippine market on its own and not with a local partner. Here's the reply of the H&M HQ in Sweden ... Continue Reading...
@YahooPH gives bad head
Everyone of us who are seasoned in journalism knows that a good head (headline to the layman) is noble: imagine being able to write the meat of the matter in just a few words. But a bad head? I almost choked when I read this in the world's No. 2 search engine before I retired to bed last night: Being the grammar nazi, I felt compelled to post the glaring error on my Facebook wall while calling the attention of the only Yahoo contact I know on FB, tech editor Alora Guerrero. Sorry Alora if we caused you to panic, as this is obviously beyond your turf. ... Continue Reading...
WD My Passport Ultra mobile storage solution
Wouldn't you like to give someone the gift of protection this Christmas? No, not that kind of "protection." We're thinking along the lines of data protection which is getting to be a necessity these days with our mounting files of digital photos, music, movies, documents and the like. I was thinking that WD's My Passport Ultra line of portable hard drives would make a great Xmas gift to my tech-savvy friends who want to protect their digital content, especially when traveling. WD My Passport Ultra has super-fast USB 3.0 connectivity and looks sleek with its ... Continue Reading...
Meralco: yes, you can lower your electric bill!
It still stumps me to be living in a country with one of the highest power rates in the world. Yes you heard it, the cost of our electricity is more expensive than Singapore or Japan. You can just imagine how much of the low-salaried Pinoy's monthly budget goes to paying for power (sigh) In other countries, the cost of electricity is subsidized by the government - hence, their lower rates. Also, the Philippines has fared badly in developing its power industry - whether coal, geothermal, hydro or some other. As such, consumers like us have to pay for the cost of ... Continue Reading...
An Awesome Secret Foodies Tour in Tuscany at McKinley Hill
Let it be put on record that am mighty proud of the restaurant scene in Manila. It takes a native to see the diversity of offerings, the variety of cuisines and the excellence of the food available in town now. I love learning how young Filipinos, after being schooled in the great culinary traditions of New York, Vancouver, Sydney or wherever, are coming home to set up shop and pay it forward.Indeed, no longer shall we be called a Third World country if only for this! In the meantime, new fabulous places in town are sprouting up like the latest strip of Megaworld ... Continue Reading...
