Excuse me. I simply had to drool when I saw the roasted pork belly display at this new resto called Bellychon in Greenbelt 1. The skin looked so crispy, the meat so tender and it just reminds of the coming holiday season when the family tables will be festive and overladen with food. There's just something about lechon which reminds one of a joyous Christmas in the Philippines! The taste test didn't disappoint. A rice meal with a generous serving of lechon for P120? bring it on! I think this roasted pork belly originated among the South-based purveyors ... Continue Reading...
Singapore Airlines offers $210 RT fares to SG!
Last week we met with the Singapore Airlines Team in the Philippines led by general manager Ranjan Jha on the latest developments in SQ which is undoubtedly one of Asia's best. We were quite surprised that their pre-Christmas promo fares can compete with those offered by the budget airlines, but for a limited time only. We're not kidding but you can fly to Singapore for $210 (all in) if you book by November 30. In the meantime, it's only $310 for the rest of Southeast Asian routes like Bali, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Saigon, Yangon, among others. A comparison we made ... Continue Reading...
Big Buddha + Ngong Ping cable car HK
I love it that everything runs smoothly in Hong Kong. After the hardship of going up, going down the mountain could only get better with well-paved trails and signs. The descent also got me closer to looking at the Big Buddha or the Tian Tian Buddha which I only got to admire from the postcards and pictures in the past. This pic even got me closer to the Buddha, but did not take anymore the flight of 268 steps. After the descent, I sort of magically landed in a park where the rest of the tourist civilization was :) In the park, there was a way going ... Continue Reading...
Climbing Lantau Peak, Hong Kong’s second tallest mountain
Climbing Lantau Peak was one unexpected thing to do in 'touristy' Hong Kong. I had mentioned to a reliable guide that I wanted to go hiking in the territory, so I was expecting some leisurely walking on plains and plateaus. I never imagined that the hiking would involve a steep climb to Lantau Peak, Hong Kong's second highest mountain which was about 3000 feet above sea level. I ended up huffing, puffing and calling out the name of my ancestors, LOL. But the resulting scenery certainly made up for all the sweat. The closer we got, the nearer the view of the ... Just imagine, a four feet tall Oishi giant pack filled with all sorts of snack goodies. Again, we're sure you want one for the whole family to enjoy! :) All we want from joiners is to share this cool video from Team O (with Elmo Magalona, Slater Young & Ramon Bautista on board). They're seen riding a jeep through the cool streets of Manila and surprising the students after they remove their disguise. It's the best value on kiosks. Take a look: ... Continue Reading...
