In one of those rare times this southern belle found herself north of Manila - the campus-lined Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City, to be exact - I made sure to drop by Chef Sandy's Wooden Spoon which is one of the restos on my must-try list for 2012. As the photo shows, there's nothing fancy about this resto (although I like the carved spoon accents by the couch). The chef/owner was by the cash register on the day of our visit and the place was almost packed for lunch. Looking at the menu, I liked how Chef Sandy made notes in the first person to explain the dish ... Continue Reading...
Holiday recipes from chef Sandy Daza
The warmest Merry Christmas greetings to this site's readers and friends! So how was your celebration? We spent it in Manila like we've done through the years. The traffic and the shopping were toxic.. at one point I wished I was in another time, or another planet. Anyway, here's my half-finished table setting last night. I love Christmas coz of the decor we have to play with! Christmas is truly a big event in the Philippines, but from what I know New Year's here is an even bigger eating affair. Sinigang forever!…with Knorr
I was also an OFW once before so I know the feeling. One of the first things we miss about home is the food. As we fly home and the plane touches down in the runway, the craving gets more intense.Images of adobo, sinigang, pinakbet and lechon fill the mind. She's now Miss Universe 1st runner up, a good 13 years after Miriam Quiambao was named one. We must say: you really did well Janine! If not for Olivia Culpo (Miss U/Miss USA) being the hometown favorite, you could have been The One. Good work still. In an interview aired over ABS-CBN, Tugonon expressed thanks that was able to reach the Miss Universe finals, especially the Top 5. "Thankful na ako na nakarating doon, dahil kaunting Pinay rin lang naman ... Continue Reading...
Janine Tugonon a favorite for Miss Universe
(Photo credit: missuniverse.com) As Miss Universe 2012 unfolds in Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday morning (Manila time), we will be batting for the Philippines' own bet Janine Marie Tugonon who is emerging to be a heavy favorite amid all the lovely contestants from all over the world and getting noticed for her own brand of cobra walk :) Aside from Tugonon, here's our bets among those who will most likely make it to the finals/semifinals: Miss Croatia Elizabeta Burg, Miss USA Olivia Culpo, Miss Puerto Rico Bodine Koehler and Miss Venezuela Irene Sofia Esser ...
