Village Tavern is the latest resto of the Bistro Group which is most famous for their Italianni's and Friday's. Since they serve American cuisine, expect hefty servings. Price is at an average of P500 per dish (or $10) but the portions satisfy and the food is good which is why we give it a thumbs up! The Maryland Crab Cakes (P495) are the best in town. This verdict is from my dinner seatmate Adrian Cuenca who lords the kitchen at Elbert's, one of Manila's finest steak houses. You can tell the resto didn't scrimp on the crab meat which is good news for those who ... Continue Reading...

Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo
Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo, Manila - the heart of the Chinatown district - is definitely worth checking out. We went here on a holiday Monday (National Heroes Day) which made traffic light and bearable in this part of town. On ordinary days, the roads will probably be hard to navigate. Anyway, it's good that Megaworld decided to put up an upscale mall in Binondo to cater to the well-heeled Filipino-Chinese in the area and other consumers. It's about time! Prior to this, we've always known of Chinatown as the home of good food and the bargain shopping center of ... Continue Reading...
xiao long bao in Manila at Shi Lin
I imagine I must have been a full-bloodied Chinese in my past life coz I love dimsum. There are times when intense siomai cravings hit and I just gotta have it. The soupy xiao long bao is one of those that's been added to the mainstream dimsum list in town and am glad to have eaten the whole variety - from Suzhou to Jasmine to Lugang Cafe and Crystal Jade. There's also another place which serves one of the best (if not the best) xiao long bao and it's Shi Lin. Their decor is highlighted by a display of Asian -inspired lanterns on the ceiling. Here's the one at their ... Continue Reading...
