If you go to Taiwan, don't just linger in Taipei. Make an effort to ride their high-speed trains and wander in the outskirts where one can marvel in Taiwan's countryside beauty. Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County was particularly beautiful and as charming as its name. I would recommend it for couples taking their honeymoon, or people just wanting some peace and quiet. Let these pictures speak for itself: View of the harbor where well maintained yachts are kept - View from our hotel room - ... Continue Reading...
How to apply for a Taiwan visa
One of the things that made my recent overseas trip harder than usual was compiling documentary requirements for the Taiwan visa. The last time I did so was for a trip to Japan in 2005. I've also gotten so used to travelling around Southeast Asia where getting around (luckily) doesn't require a visa for Filipinos. You need to have patience and attention to details when completing your visa requirements and also make sure - first and foremost - that your Philippine passport does not expire in six months, otherwise you may not be able to travel. It's impressive how DTF has become an international chain, with five branches in Taiwan and outlets located across China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, the US, Japan, Korea and Malaysia. The Hong Kong branch, for one, earned a One Michelin Star this ... Continue Reading...

Flight time to Taipei Taoyuan International Airport via the Taiwanese-owned EVA Air was only one hour, 36 minutes! I think a domestic trip to Davao City takes longer :D I was also happy to try EVA Air, since this is one airline I haven't tried before. Was much comforted with the fact that this was included in my previous post about the world's safest airlines. For the Manila-Taipei-Manila leg, EVA uses ... Continue Reading...

Manila International Bookfair 2010 is going to be held from September 15 to 19 at the SMX Convention Center in the Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. Judging from the schedule of activities and list of participants, it's going to be a better and more exciting book fair for bibliophiles, students and other interest groups this year. Here's a list of interesting activities to guide you, should you decide to visit: “Read, Connect and Innovate” forum by the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc.
