…. & the rest of the bloggers speak about their blogging achievements

December 22, 2007 ·

For the second week now, yours truly's column in the Manila Bulletin asks Filipino bloggers their thoughts on what they consider to be their best blogging achievement(s) for 2007. It's a feat that is certainly not measured by popularity or blog income alone but also personal fulfillment. By fulfillment, we mean intangibles like friendships made, perspectives opened, horizons widened and how blogging has polished one's use of the English language, perhaps. I can think of a few more - blogging, because it's time -consuming, can compel you to use your time wisely. Also, ... Continue Reading...

Rudy Project: ‘technically cool eyewear’

December 18, 2007 ·

Pardon the slew of commercial posts ahead. After all it's Christmas and we're supposed to be shopping :P Starting with the Sony Ericsson post, I will be featuring here a host of products to have and to hold.... not necessarily wallet-friendly, but then again, who can argue with quality?? Why do I get the feeling that Pinoys wear shades as a matter of form, rather than function? I can see this from the deluge of hip-lookin' eyewear in the market that's Made in China, priced at something like $2 each. Sometimes I am tempted to scoop a dozen or two, just to satisfy my ... Why teh Sony Ericsson is this blogger’s phone of choice for Christmas

December 15, 2007 ·

Among my friends, Christmas is usually the best time to upgrade or change cellphones. It's either because of The Bonus or the Good Samaritans among our loved ones. Luckily, am not pining for a new one. My present mobile baby, the Sony Ericsson K800i, was something I bought a little more than three months go and have been happy with it since. Before this, I owned the Samsung D900 whose form factor I absolutely loved. It was Ultra Slim and it was black which meant it was non-existent to the eyes of pickpockets when placed in my bag. The world would be a better, less ... Continue Reading...

Christmas in the Philippines: longest celebration in the world??

December 12, 2007 ·

Image497. Sourced from the Intercontinental Manila holiday brochure (author unknown): As early as November, Christmas carols fill the air and multi-colored parols (star-shaped lanterns made out of paper and bamboo or capiz shells), garlands of twinkling lights, Christmas trees, belens (Nativity tableau) and other holiday ornaments liven up homes, shopping malls, buildings, and streets in the Philippines where the longest Christmas celebration in the world is observed. Christmas Day in the Philippines is ushered in by a nine-day novena of dawn ... Continue Reading...

Butterfly-catching at Ala Eh! Cafe Amadeo

December 6, 2007 ·

The second floor of the Ark Avilon Zoo has a magnificent view deck where you can see the waterfalls and the Ortigas skyline. It also has an Ala Eh! Cafe Amadeo coffeeshop where you can savor scrumptious snacks and pastries as well as an interesting selection of Philippine coffee (more on that later). The glass-enclosed Cafe Amadeo didn't turn out to be your ordinary coffeeshop. When we entered, my kids' curiosity was fixed somewhere. They were not interested in looking at the phone camera but in something...... DSC00475. ... they ... Continue Reading...
