What’s new at Fun Ranch, Frontera Verde

December 5, 2007 ·

The Fun Ranch in Pasig is probably the closest Manilans can get to year-round kiddie entertainment in one roof without going as far as Enchanted Kingdom or out of the country where those Disneyland Resorts are. The place is quite cramped but any parent would appreciate the little touches here and there which are meant to catch a child's fancy.I just wish they had a ride-all-you-can ticket isntead of paying per ride which can get quite expensive. It seems to be a popular venue for birthday parties or just plain treating the kids out. Going there over the weekend, I was ... Continue Reading...

A taste of Oz at Prince Albert Rotisserie, Intercontinental Manila

December 4, 2007 ·

Intercon's Prince Albert Rotisserie is one of the good ol' places to get the five-star steak experience in Manila. This is notwithstanding the fact that top hotels seem to be the favorite gathering ground of anyone who has a serious ax to grind against the government these days... just think about the Oakwood caper and more recently, the Manila Pen siege. What are the chances that an armored personal carrier is going to ram through the door as you cut on that wonderful piece of prime rib? Probably nil. It's just that people like Trillanes want to have their steak and ... Continue Reading...

A shout-out for The Tides Boracay Hotel

December 2, 2007 ·

The preview for "Batanes" was held in The Tides, Boracay's newest hotel. It made me think that I am definitely staying there on my next visit! Its main advantage is that it is right smack in D'Mall at Station 2, a center of the Bora night life and just a few walks to the main beach. The second reason is that I so dig its minimalist motif and the black & white lines (okay, predominantly white). The last thing I'd like to see is tropical interiors in Bora (think rattan, bamboo and ugh, driftwood). Am glad that the new accommodations are going the direction of ... Continue Reading...

Getting jiggy with Iza Calzado, ethereal beauty behind the movie ‘Batanes’

November 30, 2007 ·

Iza Calzado, originally uploaded by annalyn. So now you know why we were flying up North. We were supposed to go there with movie actress Iza Calzado for the premiere of her movie 'Batanes.' In the film opening in theaters on Dec.5 , Iza stars with good-looking newcomer Roem Bascon and Taiwanese superstar Ken Chu (of the F4 fame). The heart-wrenching drama will either make you cry for a lost love or enthrall you with the cinematography taken mostly in rustic Batanes, with its lush valleys, majestic cliffs and imposing sea. Iza was first actress I've ... Continue Reading...

Escaping the winds, worshipping the sun….

November 30, 2007 ·

outrigger boat. Remember what your mama told you that strokes of misfortune can be blessings in return? This is what I felt when - by a funny twist of fate - we ended up in sunny Boracay instead. I was still recovering from the disappointment of a postponed trip to windswept Batanes, still one of the dream places on my book. But seeing the familiar sights of the Philippines' most famous and beautiful beach was enough to make my heart a-flutter. Who can complain?? Sunbathers. ... Continue Reading...
